Forter is looking for a Principal Engineer to be the technical leader for our SDLC Platform Engineering group. The role reports to the Director of Infrastructure & Security.

How do you make IaC products that work well and have a great developer experience across many toolchains? What is the best testing strategy for a massively distributed system from local testing to actual rollouts? How can we reduce the build time in a large monorepo used by hundreds of engineers and analysts? These are the kinds of questions and challenges we tackle at the Infrastructure group on a daily basis, because we believe that developer experience matters, and we are constantly looking to find better ways of doing things at Forter. 

As a Principal Engineer, you will be a critical part of leading our cloud architecture, driving our developer platform product vision, mentoring Staff and Senior engineers and using your extensive platform building experience to lead the construction of a best–in-class developer platform that will be used by hundreds of engineers across all of Forter.

• Envision what the future of building, testing, deploying and operating services at Forter looks like 3-5 years from now
• Bring your vision for doing infrastructure at scale from idea through execution into impact
• Mentor Senior and Staff Engineers, so they can build larger and larger scale systems in ever growing complex environments
• Interface with the various engineering teams across Forter to learn about what they need, what problems they currently face, and build a strong relationship with them
• Evolve the principles that guide how Forter creates infrastructure and how our platform should help engineers across Forter achieve their goals faster, safer and with higher quality
• Constantly think about developer experience, and how to improve it whether it’s about increasing developer productivity through shorter build times or delighting the developers by reducing usage friction across the platform
• Work on highly available, very large scale, production critical systems that all Forter engineers rely on for their day-to-day operations

• You know the developer platform you’ve been working on well enough to envision its next iteration elsewhere
• In-depth knowledge of how one major cloud works (AWS/Azure/GCP)
• A proven record of being able to influence an entire engineering organization (or an entire discipline within the larger organization)
• Worked on a platform/infrastructure team that serves at least 30 engineering teams
• Designed and built infrastructure products that worked at scales of at least thousands of machine instances, several dozens of microservices and billions of events per day
• Experience writing and maintaining complex backend systems using modern programming languages (i.e. Python, Go, Java.)

• Excellent presentation skills - can talk and explain at the right level of abstraction to different audiences
• Clear, concise and well structured written communication skills

• You are passionate about building products and tools that developers love to use - we’ll want to hear everything about it! 
• You have direct experience working on CI/CD tooling and have lot of ideas on how to make them better
• You’re an active public speaker on technology topics and/or have an online presence where you share your insights and knowledge
