About the role

The Data Science Infrastructure team is a growing group that works closely with executives and leaders across the company to support the development and alignment on our business strategy. We are looking for a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to build a next generation cloud-based analytics platform to tackle wireless performance and connectivity issues in enterprise environments. Meraki's cloud-managed model offers a unique opportunity to draw upon data from hundreds of thousands of networks and millions of access points deployed across our wide ranging customer base. The goal is to use the rich telemetry data available from these devices and combine it with the power of Machine Learning and the cloud to build an analytics engine that can provide intuitive, yet detailed insights into the performance issues across our customer networks. Given the scale of Meraki’s deployment, this provides a unique engineering opportunity to build an impactful solution that can help enhance our customer experience at large.

What Will You Do
  • Lead data science infrastructure team's AI/ML strategy roadmap while collaborating with PMs, ML Architects, and engineering leaders.
  • Influences the opinions and decision-making of others internally at the executive level and externally with customers.
  • Communicates complex ideas, anticipates potential objections and persuades others, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view.
  • Applies ingenuity and creativity to problem analysis and resolution in complicated and/or novel situations
  • Influence architectural decisions with focus on security, scalability, and high-performance.
  • Collaborate with data science and full stack teams at Meraki to define and build features for an effective and intuitive wireless analytics platform.
  • Mentor senior and mid-career team members by providing technical guidance.
What Skills You Posses
  • Bachelors + 12 years of related experience, or Masters + 8 years of related experience, or PhD + 5 years of related experience
  • Experience programming in Python, Go or Scala.
  • Experience using data processing and ML libraries such as Pandas, Scikit-Learn, Tensorflow, Keras, etc.
  • Experience implementing and monitoring big data pipelines.
  • Experience working with distributed computing engines like Apache Spark, etc. and real time data streaming services like Amazon Kinesis.
  • Experience in designing, deploying, and securing cloud-based AI/ML infrastructure. (AWS Preferred)
  • Experience in containerization technologies (docker), orchestration platform (K8s), and CI/CD framework (gitlab).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Bonus Points For
  • Experience with a wireless or a networking analytics system.
  • Experience maintaining MLOps platform and supporting production systems to minimize customer downtime.

Compensation Range:
$148,100—$282,900 USD

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. hiring location. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%.  Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
