Your Duties

  • The role of a Principal Structural Engineer is to lead work on medium and large projects, and to manage and grow a team of Structural Engineers supporting local and national projects. The Principal Structural Engineer will be able to evaluate, select, and specify engineered systems or products for a project. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Periodically acts as QC reviewer on projects.

  • Develops and delivers client presentations.
  • Assist with development of design standards.
  • Directly manages and mentor's other engineers; engaging, developing, and retaining top talent.
  • Hire top tier talent focused on meeting the strategic objectives of the Structures Practice. Mentor existing staff and work with them to create an appropriate career path and to track their growth.
  • Participate in the development, dissemination and implementation of a business plan.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • California Professional Engineering license is required, California Structural Engineering license is required.
  • Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes
  • Strong knowledge of structural systems, seismic design, construction means and methods, materials, and industry standards
  • Deep understanding and working knowledge the following building systems: steel framing including lateral systems for seismic (braced frames, BRBF, SPSW, etc.), concrete framing including lateral systems for seismic (shear walls and moment frames), wood framing, timber.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in written form concepts and ideas to a diverse audience of Architects, Engineers, and Owner clients effectively
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought

Education and Experience

  • 15+ years of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required, Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience with general business software (Microsoft Office suite)
  • Experience with industry standard Structural Engineering software (CSI, RISA, RAM, etc.)
  • Experience with modeling software (Autodesk Revit)

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
