Production Designer for Sign Shop

Well established custom signs & graphics company is seeking to hire a talented and detail-oriented Production Designer to join our team. The Production Designer will be responsible for creating visually compelling designs for a variety of signage projects while ensuring that designs are production-ready and implemented accurately. This role combines creative design expertise with technical knowledge of sign production processes, requiring collaboration with the production team to ensure seamless execution from concept to installation. Key Responsibilities: • Design Creation: Develop creative, high-quality designs for signage, including banners, vehicle wraps, channel letters, digital displays, and other custom graphics, based on client specifications and brand guidelines. • File Preparation: Prepare print-ready files, ensuring designs meet technical requirements for production, including proper file formats, color profiles (CMYK), resolutions, and cut paths. • Production Oversight: Collaborate with the production team to ensure designs are accurately translated into physical signs, verifying materials, dimensions, and installation requirements. • Quality Control: Review proofs and final products to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to design specifications and client expectations. • Client Communication: Work with clients to understand their vision, provide design mockups, and incorporate feedback to refine designs to meet customer approval. • Equipment Knowledge: Understand and utilize design software and production equipment (e.g., large-format printers, vinyl cutters, laminators) to ensure designs are optimized for production. • Project Management: Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards of quality. • Material Selection: Recommend appropriate materials and finishes for signage projects based on durability, end use, aesthetics, and budget considerations. • Stay Updated: Keep up with industry trends, design techniques, and advancements in sign production technology to enhance creativity and efficiency. Qualifications: • Experience: 2+ years of experience in graphic design in a sign/Graphics shop or print production environment. • Technical Skills: • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Etc.. • Knowledge of sign production processes, including large-format printing, vinyl cutting, and installation techniques. • Familiarity with RIP software (Caldera, Versaworks) is a plus. • Creative Skills: Strong eye for design, including typography, color theory, and layout composition, with the ability to create visually appealing and brand-consistent graphics. • Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure precision in both design and production phases to avoid errors and ensure high-quality output. • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with clients, team members, and vendors. • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot design or production issues and adapt designs to meet practical constraints. • Physical Requirements: Ability to occasionally lift up to 75 lbs and assist with production or installation tasks as needed. • Salary: $22/hr to $28/hr based on experience. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with vehicle wrap design and installation. • Familiarity with CNC routers, laser cutters, or other sign-making equipment. • Knowledge of ADA-compliant signage and local sign regulations.
