Production Technician - Welder
Job Purpose
The Welder assembles and welds metal parts on the production line, using welding equipment and knowledge of welding techniques. The ideal candidate will have the ability to weld Aluminum in addition to other metals. Work is performed under general supervision.

Organizational Information
Position reports to the Product Manager or Manufacturing Manager and provides an interface with other Manufacturing Operations.
Key Tasks, Responsibilities and Essential Accountabilities
β’ Welds or tack welds metal parts together, using spot welding gun or hand, electric or gas welding equipment.
β’ Connects hoses from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas, and turns valves to release mixture.
β’ Ignites torch and regulates flow of gas and air to obtain desired temperature, size and color of flame.
β’ Preheats workpieces preparatory to welding or bending, using torch.
β’ Fills cavities or corrects malformation in lead parts and hammers out bulges and bends in metal workpieces.
β’ Examines workpiece for defects and measures workpiece with straightedge or template to ensure conformance with specifications.
β’ Climbs ladders or works on scaffolds to disassemble structures.
β’ Signals crane operator to move large workpieces.
β’ Dismantles metal assemblies or cuts scrap metal, using thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torch or plasma-arc equipment.
β’ Positions and secures workpiece, using hoist, crane, wire and banding machine, or hand tools.
β’ Selects, positions, and secures torch, cutting tips, or welding rod, according to type, thickness, area and desired temperature of metal.
β’ Guides and directs flame or electrodes on or across workpiece to straighten, bend, melt, or build up metal.
β’ Fuses parts together, seals tension points and adds metal to build up parts.
Education and Experience Required
β’ Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
β’ Four years of recent paid work experience (of like kind).
β’ Completion of a certified training program from an accredited college or vocational school may be substituted for two years of work experience.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
β’ Ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving arm or while holding arm and hand in one position.
β’ Ability to quickly move hand, hand together with arm, two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
β’ Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
β’ Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact position.
β’ Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without βgiving outβ or fatiguing.
β’ Ability to quickly and repeatedly bend stretch twist, or reach out with body, arms, and/or legs.
β’ Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
β’ Ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrist.
β’ Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
β’ Knowledge of raw materials, production processes quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
β’ Ability to weld Aluminum in addition to other metals.
