About the Role – Project Accountant Blueline is looking for a Project Accountant to join their team in a newly created role focused on tracking project financials. As the company transitions AP/AR functions offshore, this position will play a critical role in ensuring financial visibility across active contracts. The Project Accountant will be responsible for monitoring project margins, reviewing change orders, and ensuring that each job remains financially sound from start to finish. Job Title:Project Accountant Location:Full-time in person Department:Finance Reports To:Controller Position Summary • We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to support our accounting team in managing the financial performance of construction projects. This role will serve as a key liaison between project managers, operations, and the accounting team—both onshore and offshore—to ensure accurate billing, job costing, subcontractor compliance, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is highly organized, understands construction accounting principles, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities New Project Setup • Assign job numbers and communicate with project stakeholders. • Import SOVs and project phases into the ERP (Acumatica); maintain job data in WIP reports. • Validate project margin and confirm subcontractor data is complete. Subcontract & Change Order Management • Review subcontracts and change orders for margin impact and compliance. • Track change order approvals and collaborate with PMs/PEs to assess budget impacts. • Verify vendor invoices against subcontracts and POs; resolve discrepancies with vendors and project teams. Materials & Purchase Order Processing • Work with Operations to ensure POs are issued and recorded correctly. • Match and approve material invoices for AP processing. • Confirm approvals for high-dollar purchases based on threshold limits. Customer Contracts & Billings • Ensure margin targets are met and billing documentation is complete and accurate. • Compile draw billing worksheets and generate customer invoices. • Monitor AR aging and coordinate with PMs to ensure timely collections. Project Accounting & Reporting • Act as liaison with offshore accounting to ensure timely invoice and compliance processing. • Prepare monthly job reports (spend-to-date, margin, labor, percent complete). • Generate ad hoc reports and assist in WIP schedule reviews. Qualifications Required Skills and Experience • 2–5 years of accounting experience, ideally in a fast-paced or project-oriented environment. • Hands-on experience with accounting software and ERP systems (Experience in Acumatica is a plus). • Familiarity with GAAP accounting principles and common accounting workflows (AP/AR, billing, reconciliations). • Comfort with tasks like billing preparation, cost tracking, and contract review—even if not in a formal project accountant role. • Strong Excel skills for tracking, reporting, and reconciliation. • Detail-oriented with strong analytical thinking and organizational skills. • Excellent communication skills—able to work proactively and collaboratively across teams. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in construction accounting, project coordination, or managing subcontracts and change orders. • Exposure to project accounting concepts like WIP reporting or revenue recognition (especially in construction). • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. What to expect for the first 90 days -0–30 Days • Complete Acumatica training and understand internal financial policies. • Build working relationships with PMs, PEs, and finance team. • Become proficient in remote collaboration tools and workflows. -30–60 Days • Learn cost tracking, billing cycles, revenue recognition, and WIP reporting. • Assist with at least one project billing cycle and one WIP review. -60–90 Days • Independently prepare project billings for multiple jobs. • Produce accurate financial reports with minimal supervision. • Support the monthly close process.
