As a Project Engineer, you will be focused on conventional new product development and launch in commercial off-highway applications, as well as continuous improvement of current production solutions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Improve or develop new transmission component and sub-system designs using sound engineering principles, GD&T and tolerance stacks.
- Perform engineering calculations related to component loading, basic stress and fatigue life calculations for general component sizing.
- Design new part concepts in CAD, review FEA results and make design judgements based on those results. Components may include shafts, gears, housings, clutches, and other powertrain components.
- Direct and collaborate with specialized CAD designers to develop new product concepts.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of new designs and modifications to components and sub-systems.
- Support and resolve component deviation requests, durability issues and other field issues.
- Determine appropriate DVP&R elements to validate the product and execute to completion by initiating test requests, supporting data review and interpretation and a thorough review of test reports.
- Execute DFMEA/PFMEA analysis and align product designs to Best Practices.
- Develop Bill of Materials.
- Develop a solid understanding of the manufacturing and assembly impacts to design.
- Work with suppliers, Purchasing, and Supplier Quality Engineers to support cost reduction, sourcing decisions and design changes.
- Work with internal advanced analysis group as required.
- Perform design trade-off analyses and optimization.
- Perform failure analysis of hardware in cooperation with internal metallurgical lab.
- Execute other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 3 years of engineering experience
- Experience in CAD modeling
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints
- Knowledge and understanding in material strength
- Experience in transmission design and powertrain integration preferred
- Experience in other common analysis software (e.g. AMESim, MATLAB/Simulink) preferred
- Excellence in written and spoken English.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Teams)
- Planning and organizational skills
- Experience in material processes including heat treatment preferred
- Experience in failure analysis preferred
