Job Description

Position Summary: The Property Accountant will focus on accounting for a portfolio of both development and stabilized multi-family properties in the Goodman Real Estate, Inc. portfolio. This role will be responsible for the general ledger accounting activities including, balance sheet reconciliations, the preparation and review of residential financial statements for the assigned portfolio, and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and/or financial reporting requirement to lenders. This position works closely with the Community Teams, Asset Services Department and the Accounting Manager. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: • Responsible for all general ledger functions, including posting of revenue, the monthly close process and preparing and/or reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations. • Preparation and finalization of monthly financial reporting. • Prepare monthly supporting balance sheet schedules, unclaimed property workbook, and other work papers. • Maintain status sheets on financial reporting, owner distribution reporting, payroll payment reporting, and other monthly reports. • Responsible for time sensitive payments including, but not limited to mortgages, taxes, insurance, and owner distributions. • Oversees assigned portfolio cash maintenance and prepares monthly bank reconciliation for review. • Preparation of book transfers and/or wire transfers using online banking systems. • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. • Assists in the preparation of portfolio wide reports, such as the annual real estate tax and insurance escrow workbook and other monthly/quarterly reports. • Conducts the approval process and prepares and submits monthly, quarterly, and/or annual financial reports to lenders per the loan agreement. • Assists in preparation of year end audits and tax returns. • Recommend policies and procedures designed to maintain proper internal controls and highest level of competency and accuracy. • Work closely with the Accounting Specialist and Asset Services Department to ensure monthly reporting deadlines are satisfied and to ensure proper cash management. • Communicate with Property Managers and/or Asset Services Department to resolve any accounting matter that may arise. • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by Accounting Manager. Other duties and special projects as assigned: As part of our Business Continuity Plan, essential job responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the following: • Daily Status Report sent to Supervisor; may be required to keep track of duties on Outlook Calendar. • Responsible for the safekeeping of equipment including, but not limited to, company assigned laptop and related equipment. Report any damage or failure of equipment to your supervisor immediately. Equipment or supplies are not to be removed from your work premises without proper authorization (refer to the Community Laptop Policy for additional guidelines). • Data security is a priority; responsible for contacting IT immediately (via Support Hub) if receiving any questionable emails or attachments. • Interim checkpoints are defined by Supervisor; responsible for immediate follow-up. • Maintain meeting schedule and attendance through Microsoft TEAMS. • Participates in additional trainings related to Business Continuity Plan tasks; maintains active presence on Microsoft TEAMS (participation and visibility). • While home working may be available to this position, remote access is granted on a case-by-case basis, is continuously monitored, and may be revoked at any time. Team member must agree to and acknowledge the Laptop/Work Remote Acknowledgement Form prior to home working. Required Skills and Motivations: • Knowledge of Yardi Residential. • Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and efficiently manage and maintain related workflow. • Strong working knowledge in all aspects of property accounting . • Gathers and analyzes information skillfully. • Speaks clearly; listens and gets clarification. • Maintains confidentiality. • Completes tasks accurately and timely. • Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; makes recommendations for improvements. • Accepts responsibility; follows or exceeds organizational standards. • Ability to work independently as required. • Learns new skills to improve job performance. • Works to improve team and organizational climate. • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Applications and 10-key by touch is required. Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: • BA or BS degree preferred. • 1-3 years’ experience in related field. Computer Skills: • Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Windows Operating System. • Yardi experience is preferred.
