POSITION SUMMARY:
The Prototype Carpenter is responsible for fabricating and installing custom wood components with precision to support the development of new products, architectural millwork, casework, and specialty builds. This role is critical in bringing conceptual designs to life by collaborating with engineering, design, and production teams to produce accurate and high-quality prototypes for retail and commercial environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
β’ Interpret and execute complex shop drawings, renderings, and technical specifications with precision.
β’ Fabricate high-quality wood prototypes using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery.
β’ Work with hardwoods, veneers, and engineered wood panels to create functional and visually accurate mockups.
β’ Install custom wood components as needed for review, presentation, or testing purposes.
β’ Collaborate with engineering, production, and finishing teams to ensure proper fit, finish, and manufacturability.
β’ Troubleshoot construction challenges and propose practical solutions during prototyping.
β’ Provide feedback on design feasibility, material selections, and potential production improvements.
β’ Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area that supports efficient project flow.
β’ Contribute to the continuous improvement of prototype processes, standards, and documentation Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position has no direct reports.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
β’ Experience in architectural millwork or retail fixture manufacturing preferred.
β’ Familiarity with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar design programs is a plus.
β’ Understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes related to wood products.
β’ Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files.
β’ Detail-oriented with a commitment to craftsmanship and quality.
β’ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
β’ Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability during iterative design changes.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
β’ High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
β’ 2+ years of experience in carpentry or millwork, preferably in a prototype or custom build environment
β’ Strong knowledge of woodworking tools, machinery, and joinery techniques.
β’ Experience working with hardwoods, veneers, and engineered wood products.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

β’ Varying work schedules based on business need are sometimes required
β’ Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear
β’ Ability to read drawings and blueprints
β’ Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
β’ Ability to carry and lift materials up to 25 lbs
