Public Safety Officer

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston is one of the world's most respected centers focused on cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. The primary purpose of the Public Safety Officer position is to screen students, patients, staff, faculty and visitors entering the facilities of the University for proper identification. Through observation and patrol, safeguard institutional property, identify security issues and enforce institutional rules and regulations. In emergencies, facilitate the orderly evacuation of the buildings and structures. KEY FUNCTIONS: Patrol Patrol university buildings and property on foot to prevent theft, vandalism or fire. Calls for Service Responds to calls for service and provides requested services in a timely manner and in accordance with policies and procedures. Screening Actively screens all persons entering university facilities, challenges persons without appropriate identification and all suspicious persons. Other Duties as Assigned Other duties to include, but not limited to, emergency recall and/or may be required to remain onsite or work extended hours during man-made or natural disasters and unusual occurrences on campus. Local or long-distance travel may be required for training or other business purposes occasionally. EDUCATION: Required:High school diploma or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: Required: One year of relevant work experience. Valid Class A, B or C Texas driver's license. OTHER: Required:Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources. This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
