Job Description
Motional’s Quality Director is the gatekeeper for all engineering processes and quality practices. From traditional OEM and supplier practices to agile software development, we are working fast to invent the future and deliver autonomous vehicles. We need someone to help ensure that we continue to do it well, have the right lifecycles in place to ensure quality and speed, and continually improve by learning along the way. The Quality Director at Motional is not leading a team, this is an cross functional and process leader.
What You'll Be Doing
You will advance Motional's Quality System by building a team focused on integrating Software, Safety, Cybersecurity, Systems, and Hardware requirements into a Quality Program which satisfies Motional's organizational risk threshold.
Typical objectives include:
- Direct key initiatives to establish a Quality Management System (QMS) that can be certified as compliant with ISO 9001.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate strategic quality management plans.Â
- Balance and incorporate agile software development processes with a QMS. Â
- Work hands on with subject matter experts across the enterprise to advance a QMS that multiplies the efforts of diverse stakeholders in an agile environment – including providing training and drafting documentation.
- Institute documented process controls across the enterprise.
- Promulgate standards, processes, and procedures to assure software and overall product quality.
- Provide expertise and leadership in Quality Assurance and process improvement tools and methods.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective / preventive action engagements for critical quality defects.
- Define and monitor quality objectives and provide periodic reporting to top management.
- Establish and maintain internal QMS audits.
- Further establish and improve Motional’s new/existing quality control processes and identify new focus areas as part of strategic planning.
- Manage the implementation and monitoring of supplier part qualification and certification processes.
- Provide technical assistance during supplier launch, change-over and ongoing production activities.
- Consistently foster a culture of continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years’ experience in quality or software engineering.
- An adaptable, flexible, and agile mindset with a keen focus on meeting the needs of the enterprise from a regulatory compliance perspective.
- Experience in managing a group of quality or engineering professionals.
- Quality Systems Planning (APQP), including PPAP, experience.
- Experience working with Global Tier 1 suppliers and/or nontraditional automotive suppliers.
- Experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgment to develop potential solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross functional teams simultaneously.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs.
