Travel Requirements:
This position requires regular travel throughout the following states: Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington.Candidates must be willing and able to travel as needed based on project assignments.
Job Summary:
TheRoadway Worker in Charge (RWIC)will be responsible for providingon-site roadway worker protectionfor activities on and aroundlive railroad tracks. This role includesjob site coordination,dispatcher/train communication, and implementing various types ofOn-Track Safetyin both controlled and non-controlled track areas.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Jobsite Protection:Ensure accurate and error-freejobsite protectionfor each assignment. This includesradio communicationwithtrain dispatchersand engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits duringtrain movements, and granting permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed through limits.
• Daily Briefings:Conductdaily job briefingswith all personnel on-site, ensuring compliance withrailroad safety requirements.
• Documentation:Prepare and submit requiredelectronic forms, including job set-up forms for eachflagging assignment,daily work reports,invoices, and other necessary reports.
• Tool Handling:Handle and placesigns,derail, and other tools and equipment weighing between 15 to 90 pounds as needed throughout the day.
• Safety Training:Actively participate in routinesafety classesandqualification training.
• Communication:Maintain high levels ofcommunicationwith RWICsupervisorsand managers regarding assignments and schedules.
• Additional Duties:Perform other tasks as assigned to meet business needs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• Ability to meetphysical demandsand perform required tasks effectively.
• Capability towarn roadway workersof approaching trains.
• Understanding ofon-track safety trainingandqualificationrequired for roadway workers.
• Proficiency inradio proceduresfor communication between RWIC/EICs (Employee in Charge) and work groups.
• Competence in conductingjob briefingswith roadway workers at their work location.
• Ability to placerailroad advance warningandstop signs.
• Skill in installing arailroad derailand applying thelocking device.
• Proficiency withelectronic communications, including email, text, and standard office applications (e.g.,Microsoft Office Suite).
Required Education and Experience:
• High school diplomaor equivalent (GED).
• A minimum of2 yearsofClass 1 Railroad experience, preferably within theMaintenance of Way (MOW)department.
• Employment is contingent upon the successful outcome of pre-employment and recurring background checks, and drug and alcohol testing, as well as classroom and field training, including assessments. Successful completion of all onboarding and recurring training requirements is mandatory for continued employment.
Preferred Education and Experience:
• 2 - 5 yearsof experience inrailroad track maintenance.
• Prior experience working within arailway company.
• Training inrailway “Track Inspection Guidelines”or equivalent,North On-Track WorkerandOperating Rules.
Additional Qualifications, Certifications, etc.:
• UP North On-Track WorkerandOperating Rulescertification.
