Job Description The Rapid Response Team Nurse (RRN) functions under the direction of the Intensive Care Unit Manager. Participates in coordinating the Rapid Response Team's activities, which include assessing the patient, prioritizing and collaborating with the Provider and Respiratory Therapist, and implementing interventions to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Mentor and educate staff of less experienced team members and monitor JIT education. Ensures the documentation of interventions and outcomes is complete. Responsibilities • The Rapid Response Team Nurse (RRN) will respond to all RRTs, Code Blues, Stroke and Sepsis alerts, and other • patient care emergencies. • The RRN will conduct clinical surveillance by identifying patients at risk for complications or becoming seriously ill by • using a proactive approach, making rounds frequently to collaborate with the bedside nurses. • Utilizes opportunities to teach and mentor other nursing and ancillary personnel. • Assimilates data results into a proactive method to decrease negative patient outcomes and support process • improvements. • Documents and submits required information and data in a timely manner. • Supporting continuity of care, the RRN will involve patient/family and other disciplines to determine expected outcomes • Includes the patient and others involved in the care in the evaluation process. • Directs the coordination of care across the setting and amongst caregivers by engaging in teamwork as a team player • and team builder • Role models pro-active problem solving by collaborating with staff to ensure effective resolution of identified issues. • Utilizes chain of command for unresolved or escalating issues and advocates for patients and staff to provide for safe • delivery of care and/or a safe environment of care. • Assures first person reporting of events through Event Reporting System. Supports all staff to be competent in entering • event reports and serves as a resource when necessary. • Actively participates and supports quality assurance and improvement programs. • Supports shared leadership structure and works collaboratively to accomplish goals and positively influence and support • team members. • Mentor and educate staff; and will monitor JIT education for staff. • Performs all other duties as assigned. Qualifications • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess • data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to population-specific and age-specific needs. • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied • situations. • Ability to demonstrate effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to demonstrate • effectiveness as a group leader and participant. • Ability to contribute to initiatives and processes while supporting a collaborative and respectful team environment and • improving workflows. • Proficiency with MS Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook) and proficiency with electronic health records with the • ability to manage clinical/administrative data. • Communicates effectively with all encounters supporting an environment of collaboration. • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in • a timely manner. • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize workload to meet deadlines. • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment. • Ability to critically think and problem solve for clinical patient issues. EDUCATION: • BSN from an accredited nursing program LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: • Current Texas BON (or Compact State) RN license Upon Hire • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Upon Hire • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 60 days • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred within 60 days • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required within 90 Days • Critical Care or related area certification preferred within 120 Days EXPERIENCE: • Five (5) years of Critical Care nursing experience. • Two (2) years of ICU nursing experience Required Skills Two (2) years of Critical Care or Emergency Room nursing experience.~Previous Charge Nurse or Rapid Response Nurse experience (preferred)
