Reactor Core Design Intern - Summer 2023

Job Summary

Kairos Power is pursuing the design and building of a Gen IV, first of a kind (FOAK) demonstration reactor called Hermes. We are looking for a Nuclear Engineer highly motivated to make a difference in the real world to work with the Core Design team for enabling Hermes first criticality by 2026. Technical skills such as a good understanding of reactor theory and design, reactor kinetics, and neutron instrumentation are desirable.

Responsibilities 

• Provide support for Neutronics and/or Thermal-hydraulics analysis of Hermes Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR)
• Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications 

• MS in Nuclear Engineering or similar discipline
• Familiarity with reactor physics, reactor kinetics, and modeling tools
• Familiarity with StarCCM+ and/or FLUENT
• Familiarity with Python or similar scripting tools
• Ability to partner across Nuclear Design team
• Experience with MCNP, SCALE, and/or Serpent is preferred
• Experience with StarCCM+/FLUENT is preferred
• Experience with Python or similar scripting languages is prefered
• Experience with model validation and verification, and uncertainty quantification is preferred

Safety and PPE

• Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs
• Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
• Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes

Additional Requirements

• Occasionally requires schedule flexibility
• Occasionally requires extended hours to support launch and critical project timelines

The hourly range for this position is $28-$32 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters or $25-$29 for remote employees working in California.
