Daily duties typically involve a mix of operational support (L2/L3) and strategic project work:
Platform Management: Install configure upgrade and maintain OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) clusters in on-premises hybrid or multi-cloud environments (e.g. AWS Azure GCP).
Automation & CI/CD: Automate routine tasks and application deployment using CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins GitLab CI/CD Tekton and Ansible.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Monitor cluster performance and health using tools like Prometheus Grafana and the ELK (Elasticsearch Logstash Kibana) stack proactively identifying and resolving complex issues.
Security & Compliance: Implement security best practices manage Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and ensure compliance with internal and external standards for containerized workloads.
Collaboration: Work closely with development and operations teams to containerize applications onboard new services and provide technical support and guidance on best practices.
Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation (SOPs architecture diagrams runbooks) for OpenShift environments and processes to ensure continuity and compliance.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Successful OpenShift Engineers typically possess a combination of strong technical and soft skills.
Expertise in Red Hat OpenShift Kubernetes and Docker for container orchestration and management. Strong Linux system administration skills (RHEL CentOS).
Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash Python) and automation/IaC tools (Ansible Terraform).
Experience with Jenkins GitLab CI/CD ArgoCD or similar tools for building and managing deployment pipelines.
Familiarity with major cloud providers (AWS Azure GCP) and hybrid cloud integration.
Experience with observability stacks such as Prometheus Grafana ELK/EFK stack or Splunk.
Excellent problem-solving analytical and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in Agile cross-functional teams.
Relevant certifications such as the Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) are highly beneficial.
