Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) Manager is an integral part of the health care team. The RN Manager assists the health care team in a professional manner in the community health center setting. The RN Manager along with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) assures the highest quality of care provided to patients at the health center in accordance with established nursing standards. The RN Manager is responsible for the workflows in the health center’s back office and supervises support health center personnel to a safe environment of care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides health center back office oversight under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.
• Assumes responsibility/accountability for delegating, directing, and supervising patient care activities to ensure optimal patient care and to obtain optimum patient flow and increased patient satisfaction.
• Identifies Performance Improvement opportunities. Lead clinical support staff in managing care gaps for clinical quality measures.
• Accepts responsibility for remaining current with nursing and health care trends and information that impact nursing practice.
• Participates in collaboration with the health care team in identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing patient and family needs to develop a plan of care.
• Participates in the evaluation of products, procedures, and patient care standards.
• Participates in the evaluation of health care at the health center and in monitoring health outcomes of patients.
• Responsible for hiring, orientation, ongoing training and management of back support office staff.
• Responsible for management of clinical support staff schedules, duties and tasks.
• Ensures health center’s compliance with OSHA and administers OSHA policies and procedures.
• Administers the health center’s Texas Vaccine for Children/Adult (TVFC/A) programs and ensures compliance with TVFC/A policies are followed. Manages vaccine inventory and ordering.
• Manages back office supplies and equipment.
• Responsible for managing laboratory procedures, equipment, supplies, and results management.
• Attends JFS leadership meetings as required.
• Represents JFS in external functions, partnerships and collaborative meetings as requested.
2. Provides clinical services.
• Maintains clinical expertise and competency (to include age specific competency) as well as demonstrates thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality primary health care.
• Documents delivery of health care and nursing process in accordance with the health center’s policies and procedures in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner.
• Manages and coordinates complex patients as assigned by clinical providers.
• Educates the patient and family/significant others about diagnosis and the plan of care. Acts as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary.
• Coordinates the delivery of patient care provided by the health care team.
• Identifies and responds promptly to changes in patient’s condition and/or clinic environment.
• Coordinates and delegates the timely processing of patient referrals, prescribed medications, and other identified needs of the patient.
• Acts as a resource within the clinic to other staff members in regards to patient care.
• Participates as a team member and promotes teamwork by assisting others with patient care and department activities.
• Administers all medications accurately using the five (5) rights of medication administration, documenting medications according to health center policy and procedures.
• Upon completion of laboratory skill assessment, performs all laboratory functions according to Provider orders.
3. Other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYEE EXPECTATIONS:
• Knowledge of basic principles of health promotion, prevention and motivation.
• Knowledge of protocols in general and an ability to quickly gain specific knowledge of the Center’s current operational protocols.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
• Ability to read and comprehend medical instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to document, with clarity, all information relevant to a patient’s needs.
• Ability to effectively present information in small group situations to patients, staff, and the general public.
• Ability to prepare statistical and administrative reports.
• Ability to use electronic health records.
• Ability to work cooperatively with community agency personnel to coordinate services for patients.
• Ability to use a point of care equipment and interpret the results.
• Ability to use office equipment including but not limited to computers, fax machines, telephones and copiers.
• Ability to prioritize and allocate resources.
• Valid Texas driver’s license
• Ability to lift at least 15 pounds
• Registered Nurse degree from an accredited school of nursing
• Current unrestricted license from the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Texas
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Professionals Certification
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in outpatient setting
• Must successfully pass credentialing process which includes verification of licenses and education, screening and possible vaccination for communicable diseases like Hepatitis B and TB
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
