Job Description
TheRegistered Nurseprovides professional nursing care to the Sisters at McAuley Convent in support of medical care within the scope of practice of the Registered Nurse licensed in the state of Pennsylvania. The Registered Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the Sisters, including an understanding of the mission and values of the Sisters of Mercy, knowledge of the aging process, ability to assess each Sister's specific needs and provide the care needed.
• Performs and documents Sisters' assessments on admission and on a continuing basis.
• Administers and documents medications as ordered and observes and documents Sisters' reactions: charts reasons/outcomes when PRN meds are given. Implements orders as appropriate.
• Directs and supervises C.N.A.s; works closely with them in providing care.
• Assists with or performs ADL’s for the Sister, including showers and toileting.
• Implements rehabilitative nursing techniques.
• Offers emotional support to Sisters, e.g. coping with chronic illness, during grieving, and working with cognitively impaired Sisters.
• Participates in in-service programs by attending scheduled trainings
• Implements restorative nursing goals: educates C.N.A.’s on approach; monitors progress; reports changes to rehab coordinator.
• Completes behavior documentation.
• Follows physician’s order for completion of treatments, after assessing a Sister’s condition.
• Makes requests to attending physician (use of doctor’s book).
• Daily, is aware of scheduled consultants in/out of facility and reason for visit: shares this information with her team.
• Completion of all required documentation on a daily basis, including 24-hour shift reports and incident/accident forms.
• Assures med and treatment cart is clean and stocked for next shift, including emptying the trash.
• Assures each Sister is properly dressed on a daily basis; changed when clothes are soiled; reports need to Life Coordinator.
Position Qualifications
• Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current licensure from the state of Pennsylvania as a Registered Professional Nurse. Seeks and attends educational offerings to maintain necessary clinical skills and meet license requirements.
• Minimum of one-year RN experience in a Skilled, Long Term Care or Hospital setting.
• Prior experience with mature and geriatric population preferred. Has interest and understanding of the special needs of the older adult.
• Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook Email.
