The Nurse Director has experience in change management, creative leadership and program development; and demonstrates strong communication and collaboration skills to foster an effective partnership with institute personnel. The Nurse Director demonstrates a high level of knowledge in a particular specialty practice area and utilizes advanced leadership skills to meet organization goals. Current licensure as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Master’s degree required; either Bachelors’ or Masters’ Degree must be in nursing. Minimum of 3 years of research nurse experience and 3 years of recent management experience. Certification in specialty area if available is desired. The Nursing Director (ND) is accountable for the delivery of consistent, high quality patient care; promoting the development and satisfaction of nursing and research staff; providing operating efficiencies and ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory policies and standards of practice. This is an essential leadership position in the hospital organization encompassing patient focused management, personnel management and development, business administration of the unit, development of collaborative and team partnerships within units and interdisciplinary settings, and participation in the Cancer Center Protocol Office (CCPO), Department of Nursing and Patient Care Services, the MGH Cancer Center and Dana Farber Harvard Cancer Consortium (DFHCC.) The role integrates research compliance, program development, clinical expertise and quality outcomes management. The ND in collaboration with Cancer Center Leadership and Principal Investigators, ensures the integrity and quality of clinical trials are maintained and conducted in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals, and OMRC policies and procedures. This position is primarily responsible for the accurate completion of visit procedures and collection of information from study patients according to protocols, and for protecting the health, safety, and welfare of research participants. S upports independent nursing practice of professional nurses through collaborative, consultative and role-modeling activities 4. R esponsible for implementing and evaluating approved policies, procedures and standards of care necessary for the coordination and delivery of excellent patient-focused care 5. C ollaborates with the nurse practice specialist, research nurse managers, research nurse coordinators, physician, other healthcare professionals and assistive personnel to optimize the delivery of patient care for patients participating in cancer clinical trials.. 6. P romotes an environment that is sensitive to the culturally diverse needs of patients and employees 7. F acilitates placement and progression of staff nurses in the clinical recognition program 8. A pplies new technology, nursing theories, research findings and experiential knowledge to improve nursing practice. 9. R esponds to change in clinical practice by planning, designing, implementing and evaluating guidelines, protocols and standards in collaboration with others. 10. A pplies innovative approaches to solving complex problems. 11. T akes responsibilities for leadership and participation on committees and task forces of the DON, DFHCC, the Cancer Center, hospital and MG B. 12. C ontinually evaluates quality and safety performance, identifies improvement opportunities and plans and implements programs for improvement. - Personnel Management: 0. I nterviews, hires and evaluates research nurses and other designated research staff. 1. M anages and supervises research nurse managers, nurse practice specialists and other designated research staff. 2. P romotes the development of research teams engaging appropriate CCPO leadership in decision-making process 3. D elegates responsibility and authority to appropriate staff 4. I mplements corrective action according to hospital policy 5. C ollaborates with nursing and hospital educational resources to facilitate learning experiences for staff and students assigned to the unit 6. M aintains confidentiality, as appropriate related to personnel management issues - Administration/Business 0. A nalyzes clinical and non-clinical variables to anticipate research staffing as well as patient care needs including consideration of financial and personnel resources within the program. Generates and uses metrics to evaluate and balance resource expenditures with workload across the disease groups. 1. P romotes, develops and evaluates processes and systems for care of patients participating in clinical trials; advocates for resources and systems improvements when necessary 2. A ccountable for compliance with hospital and regulatory standards 3. N egotiates interdepartmental resources, communicates and plans with managers of other patient care units and other department’s directors and managers to ensure effective level of service to the unit. 4. S eeks collaboration with the Cancer Center and community health organizations to achieve positive outcomes and enhance research opportunities for our partners in the community. - Professional Development: 0. M aintains necessary clinical and managerial skill through continuing education and direct clinical practice 2. P articipates in leadership groups and institutional committees. 3.
