Research Associate/Sr. Research Associate, Protein Purification (Contract)

The Protein and Structural Sciences group at Scorpion is seeking a highly skilled Contract Research Associate/Senior Research Associate with a deep understanding of protein purification. You will serve a critical role in designing constructs, purifying proteins, and performing quality control for recombinant proteins that will be used in biochemical assays and structural biology. Collaboration with these groups may include some assay development or crystallography. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a skilled group of scientists representing medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, computational chemistry, biology, and other disciplines to advance programs to the clinic. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the establishment of Scorpion’s internal protein production core
• Plan and prosecute gene-to-protein projects for Scorpion’s prioritized targets
• Provide protein for the Protein and Structural Science, Biochemistry, and Chemical Biology groups
• Perform protein quality control and characterization. Aid in potential crystallography and biochemistry assays
• Maintain excellent records and communication across internal and external colleagues
• Coordinate with CRO partners to produce some proteins externally

Professional Experience/Qualifications:

• Masters and 2+ years experience or Bachelors and 4+ years experience in protein purification
• Demonstrated expertise in protein purification process development including broad experience with AKTA FPLCs and deep knowledge of chromatography resins
• Experience in bacterial expression systems and strains required. Knowledge of insect cell or mammalian expression systems a plus.
• Ability to purify multiple similar proteins in parallel
• Capable of designing expression and purification plans for targets with little or no published precedence
• Experience evaluating the quality and biophysical characteristics of recombinant protein in different types of assays is a plus, but not required
