Dr. Michael Nurok, MD, PhD is looking for a Research Data Scientist to join a diverse team!
The Research Data Scientist with joint appointments to the Departments of Anesthesiology, and Computational Biology contributes to clinical and biomedical projects related to anesthesiology and critical care medicine by applying programming, data mining, statistical analysis, machine learning, and visualization techniques. This position leads the development, evaluation, and application of algorithms, methods, and software for complex data analysis. Responsibilities include querying databases, processing and cleaning data, ensuring data quality, performing supervised and unsupervised machine learning, applying parametric and nonparametric statistical methods, deploying production models, and communicating scientific findings through peer-reviewed publications and conferences. The role requires writing clean, efficient, and reusable code to enable reproducible analyses, along with thorough documentation and sharing of code and results with principal investigators and the team. Experience working with continuous physiologic monitoring data and time-series data is critical for this position.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
β’ Leads the development, evaluation, and/or application of computational and statistical methods including artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms and software for the analysis of biomedical data.
β’ Leads with the presentation and communication of scientific results through laboratory meetings, scientific conferences, and peer-reviewed publications.
β’ Creates database-to-deployment pipelines for models using the necessary programming languages (primarily R, Python, and SQL).
β’ Creates sustainable data science infrastructure and adheres to data analysis/machine learning best practices.
β’ Performs data cleaning, quality control, exploratory data analysis to gauge the need for or appropriateness of advanced analytical methods.
β’ Leads discussions with senior and/or lead research data scientists and principal investigators to identify areas where data science can best be applied to answer biomedical research and clinical questions.
Qualifications
Education:
β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, or related field, required.
β’ Master's degree, preferred.
Experience and Skills:
β’ 2 years of professional experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industries working with biomedical data.
β’ 2 years of experience programming at an intermediate skill level with a proficient level programming language such as R or Python and SQL.
β’ Experience in biomedical machine learning is preferred.
