Job Description
HistoWiz is the largest online histopathology company based in New York City. Our mission is to help biomedical researchers find cures by accelerating histopathology and enabling global collaboration. We are looking for a Research Associate interested in joining us in our mission and making an impact in the scientific community.
Since inception in 2013, we have doubled our month-over-month sales, driven primarily by customer referrals. We are profitable, won numerous awards and are funded by prestigious investors, including Y-Combinator and Zhenfund. We are seasoned scientists with experience at leading academic institutions and have published high impact research in top journals of biomedicine.
HistoWiz has over 1,000 paying customers globally from top academic institutions (e.g. MSKCC, Harvard, Stanford, HHMI) and pharmaceutical companies (e.g. CRISPR, Johnson & Johnson, Regeneron). We process tissue specimens and digitize all of the results, hosting our client’s data on a proprietary platform, PathologyMapTM . This platform not only enables industry-leading turnaround time for diagnosis, but also online viewing, sharing and search. No other platform like this exists, so we are truly building something new that can bridge scientists, doctors, and patients from all over the world to conquer life-threatening diseases collaboratively instead of individually. This online platform also contains the world’s largest collection of pathology data and the first network of top pathologists.
Must possess a thorough working knowledge of the immunostaining procedures and routine Histology procedures sufficient to accomplish the following:
- Research and review literature to find the best antibodies for IHC and IFÂ
- Perform IHC, IF and RNAScope and train Junior team members on these and similar techniques
- Develop new techniques and equipment into products for the company
- Troubleshoot quality issues and work with pathologists to QC slidesÂ
- Communicate with our clients on a scientific level regarding their needsÂ
- Develop new protocols and assaysÂ
- Coordinate in ordering supplies and maintain inventory for the IHC departmentÂ
- Write IHC validation reports for pharma clientsÂ
- Maintain and write Standard Operating ProceduresÂ
- Design experiments and interpret results, while thinking critically about research projectsÂ
- Participate in project update meetings with clientsÂ
- Maintain accurate work records and document all progress in our Laboratory Information SystemsÂ
- Maintain laboratory organization and team priorities to complete projects with client-expected turnaround time.Â
- Design and recommend processes, systems, and operational changes to increase efficiency and effectivenessÂ
- Attend conferences, give presentations and network within the scientific communityÂ
- Apply for grants and publish as neededÂ
Position Requirements:
- PhD in scientific field (e.g. cancer biology, neuroscience, immunology)Â
- 3+ years experience with animal models of human diseaseÂ
- First-authored publications in peer-reviewed journals or funded grantsÂ
- Experience optimizing antibody conditions and troubleshooting IHC/IF assaysÂ
- Experience with multiplex IHC/IF assays
- Excellent communication skills and works well in a team environmentÂ
- Experience in project management and working with pathologistsÂ
- Experience planning, developing protocols, executing and writing reports for histology studies
- Experience with Leica Biosystems Bond autostainer and ISHÂ
- IHC assay development experience in Pharma/Biotech
- Experience in QC and image analysis using automated software such as HALO
