Essential Functions:

  • This leadership position is accountable for functioning at high levels of effectiveness in both the 'hands-on' and the strategic levels of our business.
  • The Safety Leader must have demonstrated experience in developing a culture for working safely, while driving for a vision of zero injuries to ensure alignment with Mercury's safety vision and values to build a world-class safety culture.
  • The Safety Leader will work as a member of the Safety and Occupational Health team, participating with manufacturing and distribution leadership teams in creating a sustainable culture where safety is a value.
  • This position is responsible for facilitating the development of an engaged and empowered workforce, and effective, efficient and compliant safety processes.

Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Safety/Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related science field is required.
  • 7+ years’ experience in a safety, health and environmental capacity in manufacturing, product development and/or distribution workplace safety.
  • Great people skills, with the ability to work seamlessly in a dynamic work environment.
  • Comfortable working at all organizational levels.
  • Strong knowledge and background in regulatory requirements (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, NIOSH, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong background in training, workplace assessment and safety programming development.
  • Strong personal computer (PC) skills, Excel, Word and PowerPoint required.
  • Experience working in an organized labor environment.
  • High degree of flexibility, able to plan, prioritize and adjust methods as needed.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, collaboration and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks w/ limited direction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification (CSP, PE, etc.) and/or advanced degree highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated team leading skills and/or supervisory experience desired.
  • Experience with leading metrics processes and methods.
  • Knowledgeable in LSS methodologies.
  • Leadership training and safety culture development.
