The Technical Sales Engineer may reside in Hawaii capable of traveling to customer locations in designated areas of Northern and Southern California with occasional travel to other areas. When this person is not in the field with installers, they will be working from home. We estimate travel for this role to be 40 - 60% of the year. 

  

Position Summary 

  

The Technical Sales Engineer will make use of knowledge and skillsets of solar product and energy storage experience to provide technical support and engage technical sales activities for Canadian Solar residential energy storage system: EP Cube. This position will be a direct communication link with two frontline Regional Sales Managers who are actively selling EP Cube battery storage solutions to customers. This person will coordinate with various teammates, including headquarter personnel around the globe, to ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Canadian Solar Solution Code of Business Conduct.  

  

Sales Support  

  • Provide technical sales support and 1st level contact for sales for technical or contract related questions 

  • Visit customers together with sales managers and conduct product presentations 

  • Host customer training sessions, webinars and support customer events 

  • Present PV project designs and proposal support 

  • Work within the Product Management and Technical Services teams in North America and collaborate with HQ teams 

  • Be proficient reviewing PV simulation tools supporting Residential PV and storage system design and production/economic analysis 

  

Product Launch & Ready-For-Sales Support  

  • Development of technical sales tools and/or demonstration kit 

  • Development of technical sales documentation 

  • Develop product training materials for customer and their potential end-use customers, including homeowners and installers 

  • General knowledge of complete PV ecosystems including MLPE, Racking, and other Balance-Of-System components. 

  • Support scheduling needs in the sales through installation phases of the projects. 

  • Advocate of customer needs and requirements  

  • Follow codes and certifications as they develop; analyze their impact on the market and specific products; make recommendations to management on how to leverage these developments to CSI’s benefit 

  • Work with the marketing team to launch and communicate new products and their features and measure the introduction and sales success of the existing and new products 

Sales Contract Support  

  • Define, clarify and optimize technical terms within the contract negotiation in alignment with sales 

  • Project manage fulfillment of AVL requirements and related collaterals 

  

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business discipline is required or equivalent tenure of experience. 

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in sales engineering, technical sales, technical sales support or product management, ideally in the energy storage sector within the PV industry 

  • Installation or design experience with PV module and residential battery storage system or residential backup generation systems  

  • Experience interacting with sales and business development teams and B2B sales channels, and working experience in the residential sales and commercial building industry  

  • Excellent technical aptitude and ability to quickly learn detailed information about the existing product portfolio and to communicate and answer technical and product related questions and topics 

  • Understanding and ability to calculate financial benefits of the systems – product cost and product sales price definition, analysis and recommendation, savings for customers, etc 

  • Convincingly and effectively communicate with customers, installers, homeowners, Residential PV integrators, industry working groups and regulatory authorities 

  • Excellent social and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work with others effectively, also over multiple time zones and with different cultures 

  • Ability / Willingness to travel (up to 60%) 

  • Excellent organizational, strategic planning and implementation skills 

  • Articulate with strong writing and presentation skills. In addition, this manager will possess strong analytical and financial capabilities, be process-oriented and attentive to detail 

  

 Compensation & Benefits 

Canadian Solar offers a competitive salary plus fully comprehensive benefits and performance bonus package based on an annual objective achievement. Our generous benefits package includes a 401(k) Retirement Plan, medical/dental/life/disability program, PTO and sick days. This is a full-time salaried position. The pay range for this position is $100,000 – $120,000. This range represents annual base salary only, without regard to location, and does not include bonuses or incentives or benefits that may apply. The pay range for this role is subject to change.
