Job Overview
TheSchool GuardianatIntercoastal Campusplays a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors. This position requires a proactive individual who can maintain a safe environment while fostering positive relationships within the school community. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding school policies.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include, but not limited to the following)
β’ Provide a safe, secure environment for students, staff and guests on campus
β’ Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff and community members
β’ Helps to create and maintain a working relationship with the local police and fire and rescue departments
β’ Assist in development and implementation of action plans to provide a safe environment and immediate response to imminent threats of violence, criminal incidents, emergency medical incidents, auto accidents and others
β’ Patrol and confront unauthorized persons for questioning and checking for passes and identification cards as needed
β’ Assist law enforcement officers as directed by school administration
β’ Ensure doors/gates are locked and opened at designated times determined by principal
β’ Supervise and patrol assigned school activities
β’ Provide additional security at after school events, as needed
β’ Complete and submit daily guardian log as required by DCPS
β’ Assist with searches
β’ Assist with intake of students and/or wanding as deemed appropriate by the building principal
β’ Assist other guardians with recertification scheduling, training and compliance
β’ Schedule and conduct security assessments
β’ Serve on the BTAT team
β’ Call code Red and code Yellow in case of an emergency and imminent threat
β’ Perform other tasks as may be deemed appropriate by the supervisor
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
β’ Maintain and project professional appearance as it relates to job performance
β’ Patrol and set up for after school events as assigned
β’ Assume fire alarm responsibilities as assigned by the principal
β’ Monitor security surveillance equipment to protect facilities and assets
QUALIFICATIONS:
β’ MUST have Guardian Certificate
β’ High school diploma or GED required
β’ Valid driverβs license
β’ Basic First Aid knowledge preferred
TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
β’ Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the task assigned
β’ Demonstrated knowledge of security procedures
β’ Private security or public police experience preferred including knowledge of school and local laws (including search and seizure)
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is in school site settings. Guardians may be assigned duty stations as long as the guardian is still in close proximity to the school building and can leave to respond to any safety/security concerns.
School guardians may not leave the assigned campus for any reason without permission from the building principal in order for appropriate coverage to be acquired first.
All guardian absences must be requested at least 48 hours in advance and directed to the building principal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

MEDICAL BENEFITS:
The position shall receive the same health benefits as other full-time employees of the school.
PAID TIME OFF (PTO):
The position shall be required to follow a (ten) 10-month work schedule.
The position shall be granted eight accrued (10) PTO days annually. Calculated and prorated on an annualized basis upon approval by the Board.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
