The Biology group at Alector supports pipeline drug development efforts through evaluating new targets, supporting therapeutic candidate screening and selection, as well as informing indication/patient selection through designing and executing critical preclinical studies. An Alector Scientist in Biology supports the project teams and antibody development efforts in the evaluation, selection and implementation of high performing functional screening assays based on an understanding of the current scientific literature, familiarity with current state-of-the art analytical platforms and additional experiments that they design and oversee. Previous hands-on experience with development or use of bioanalytical assays may be beneficial but is not essential. 

During the first year, your goals will include:

  • Gain and/or maintain familiarity with the scientific literature on relevant programs in one or more neurodegenerative disease indications
  • Drive the evaluation and selection of screening assays in collaboration with the antibody engineering and protein science groups 
  • Analyze, interpret, and present data to project teams and partners 
  • Collaborate with scientists across multiple therapeutic areas and functions
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Coordinate data management, data analysis and presentations, and contribute to decision making in a collaborative and timeline-driven manner 
  • Help train and mentor junior researchers 

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • PhD in Neuroscience and/or Immunology or a related subject area, or MS/BS with 8+ years industry experience in research at a pharmaceutical, Biotech or CRO. 
  • A record of success in a cross-functional team environment. 
  • Assay development experience in different platforms, ideally in Neuroscience and/or Immunology 
  • You are highly proficient in cell biology, biochemistry techniques, including mammalian cell culture, protein transfection, immunofluorescence staining, histological techniques, FACs, western blot, ELISA/MSD, some IPSC experience is a plus 
  • You have strong organizational skills in data management, timeline management 
  • You have excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • You are excited with the prospect of positively influencing project direction and strategy with by generating robust and high quality data 
  • You take pride in being self-motivated and a creative problem solver, and value teamwork 
  • You have a point of view, but are low ego
