Job Description
Colossal is seeking a talented Bioengineer or Scientist with expertise in biomedical devices to conduct pioneering research in the development and optimization of embryo maturation and gestation support systems. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing in vitro support systems. This role is integral to Colossal’s mission of contributing to the conservation and de-extinction of animal species through innovative scientific and technological advancements.
**This position is in Dallas TX, with minimal periodic (10%) travel anticipated. **
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Critically and efficiently analyze, understand, and apply scientific research to achieve team objectives
- Design, conduct, and analyze experiments using rigorous scientific methodsÂ
- Contribute to advancing our understanding of ex vivo embryonic development
- Advance in vitro gestation support by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to design and develop biomedical devices that enhance embryo maturation and gestation processes
- Conduct testing and validation of devices, ensuring they meet required safety, functionality, and efficiency standards
- Efficiently generate and develop designs by building prototypes, conducting iterative testing, troubleshooting issues, and managing both direct and outsourced development processes
- Effectively communicate completed work at various levels through presentations, in-person discussions, and written documentation
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Strong ability to rigorously apply the scientific method to solve engineering and scientific problems
- Ability to work independently, navigate uncertainty, and tackle complex problems with confidence
- Exceptional organization, communication and presentation abilities
- Apply statistical analysis to ensure the relevance, accuracy, and effective interpretation of data
- Advanced proficiency in both laboratory and engineering environments, including tools and instruments
- High level of intellectual and technical capacity to drive creative researchÂ
- Strong ability to collaborate effectively within a team, including both teaching and learning from colleagues
- Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership and a team-first mentality
- Some technical areas of experience that will be helpful, not all are required:
- Principles of mechanical, electrical, and biomedical engineering
- Rapid prototyping, microfluidics, biomedical devices, biocompatibility
- General aseptic techniques
- Molecular biology techniquesÂ
- Histology and ImmunohistochemistryÂ
- Imaging – whole mount, live, confocal, and tissue sections
- Embryo development and gestation biology
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree from an ABET-accredited program in engineering-related fields such as biomedical, mechanical, electrical, biomaterials, etc.
- 6+ years of industry or highly applied experience developing for medical device, diagnostic, or biomanufacturing systems and across duties, preferably in Research & Development engineering in medical device or other highly regulated industries (MS may substitute for 2 years of experience, PhD may substitute for 4 years of experience)
- Minimum of 8 years of highly applied experience in Duties and Requirements.
- Proven track record of translating biological requirements into device or device-system design
