The Scientist II is primarily a bench level job focusing on real time PCR and RT-PCR assay and product development in an FDA-QSR and ISO9001 compliant organization. The candidate will plan and execute laboratory research, demonstrate appropriate technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and collaboration with cross-functional departments.

This position is part of the Biochip R&D team and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA, Onsite. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Focus on innovation, translational research, and early development of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) assays.
• Gain skills and ability to independently conduct lab work.

The essential requirements of the job include:

• In-depth knowledge of nucleic acid purification and PCR, and primer and probe design for real-time PCR/RT-PCR.
• Support teams in the research and development of novel assays. Proficiency in PCR, qPCR, RT-qPCR, in-depth knowledge of nucleic acids, enzymes, and sample types (e.g., blood, plasma, FFPE, and urine) and knowledge of experimental design and laboratory practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively to solve complex problems including optimization of multiplexed real-time quantitative PCR assays and/or developing new assays and/or test methods/procedures.
• Knowledge in handling clinical samples and ability to work in a BSL-2 environment. Knowledge of biological and chemical safety.
• Bachelor’s degree in field with 2+ years of related work experience OR Master’s degree in field with related work experience.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Knowledge of principles of quality control and quality assurance.
• Proficiency with statistical analysis tools such as Minitab or JMP.
• Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills to include presentation to technical and non-technical audiences.

The salary range for this role is $82,000 to $126,700 USD. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
