Job Description
About Sail:
Sail Biomedicines is harnessing evolutionary and artificial intelligence to revolutionize programmable medicines. Sail’s platform combines first-in-class programmable RNA technology (Endless RNATM or eRNA), and an industry-leading platform of programmable nanoparticles, utilizing natural components, to unlock comprehensive programming of medicines for the first time. By leveraging cutting-edge eRNA and nanoparticle deployment technology, Sail is building a wealth of data, enabling unparalleled use of AI techniques to identify and design fully programmable medicines that are potent, targeted, versatile, and tunable. Sail was founded by Flagship Pioneering.
The Role:
We are seeking to hire an innovative and highly motivated Scientist I/ II to join the Integrative Biology group at Sail Biomedicines. Integrative Biology is a dynamic, expanding, and collaborative team working to establish foundational data sets supporting the development of Sail’s core technological platform and novel therapeutic applications. The successful candidate will be a key member of this cross-functional team of molecular biologists, immunologists, formulation scientists, and AI/ML engineers evaluating lipid nanoparticle formulations and the optimization of RNA cargo. A successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment managing several projects in parallel. The ideal candidate will have a diverse biology background that combines significant experience in ex vivo and cell-based biology, cell targeting, immune disease and/or vaccine biology. Â
Responsibilities:
- Assay development for the evaluation promising lipid nanoparticle formulations and mRNA cargoes using both in vitro and ex vivo techniquesÂ
- Lead flow cytometry efforts for the evaluation of immune and non-immune cells Â
- Routine performance of a variety of in vitro biology assays including but not limited to cellular uptake, protein expression, and immune cell engagementÂ
- Plan in vivo studies to be performed in mice and rats
- Assist in murine tissue isolation and processing, including homogenization and generation of single cell suspensions for downstream analysis
- Work collaboratively with the computational team in the creation of structured data sets and the build-out of a robust AI/ML engine
- Take on projects outside of existing expertise from planning through data analysis
- Manage multiple experiments, projects, and interactions with supporting functions
- Interpret, troubleshoot, and present complex datasets to diverse audiencesÂ
Necessary Qualifications:Â
- PhD. in the Biological Sciences or closely related field with 2+ years of experience working in either industry or academic research setting (equivalent combination of education and experience)Â
- Skilled in all aspects of flow cytometry daily activities, including ex vivo tissue processing, cell staining, acquisition, and machine maintenance
- Expertise in multiparameter (>10-color) flow cytometry analysis, compensation, and gating strategies for analysis of mixed cell populations
- Proficient with the culture of primary human cells and cell-based assays
- Competent in molecular biology techniques including PCR, qRT-PCR, and digital PCR
- Excellent documentation, organizational and communication skills
- Able to work effectively with minimal direction and oversight
- Dedicated to contributing to shared project and organizational goals working in a matrixed team Â
Desired Qualifications:Â Â
- Experience working with RNA and/or lipid nanoparticles
- Knowledge and experience in biodistribution, vaccine, and immune-oncology a plusÂ
- Hands-on experience using the Cytek Aurora and spectral flow cytometry Â
- Ability to independently perform plate-based assays ELISA, MSD, Luminex, and/or ELISPOTÂ
