The Impact You’ll Make

As the SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting Manager, you will be the lead technical accounting and SEC reporting expert, and support other reporting and technical areas including statutory reporting and Equity. You will partner closely with accounting, tax, finance & strategy, equity, legal and our external auditors. Your responsibilities will include preparation of quarterly and annual filings (Forms 10-Q and 10-K), assisting with Form 8-K and proxy filings, earnings reports, statutory reporting, equity administration backup, treasury backup and ad hoc technical accounting projects. Our ideal candidate is a dynamic, self-starter, with strong cross-functional communication and project management skills and who is focused on implementing best practices with a high attention to detail, and a passion for all that they do.

You should be excited to show up every day with a team player mentality and help in whatever capacity is needed, however your core job responsibilities will include the following:  

  • Play a key role in the cross-functional coordination of the quarterly and annual financial reporting process which includes SEC filings, earnings reports, and other materials
  • Lead the cross-functional project management of our SEC filings and act as a key contributor, including drafting certain footnotes and MD&A disclosures
  • Oversee/perform XBRL tagging of financial statements
  • Own supporting workpaper documentation in an organized and SOX compliant manner
  • Project manage requests, receipt and analytical review of deliverables across multiple internal and external teams
  • Participate in researching and drafting technical position memos related to complex accounting topics for new, unusual or non-standard transactions and articulate them in a non-complex manner
  • Partner with Tax, Accounting, and external service providers to complete statutory reporting
  • Participate in updating and maintaining internal policy documentation for the company
  • Support management in completing special projects, ad-hoc technical accounting requests, and other tasks and value-add projects as assigned
  • Partner with and backup Equity Administration and Treasury
  • Understand the underlying business and processes of the organization
  • Engage with various internal and external teams like product, business systems, internal audit, legal, finance and strategy, revenue and GL accounting to proactively understand and keep tabs on happenings in the business that could impact technical accounting matters
  • Stay current with emerging and newly released SEC regulations and thought leadership
  • Be proactive in identifying process inefficiencies and offer suggestions for improvements
  • Participate in in-person Nextdoor events, trainings, off-sites, volunteer days, and other team building exercises
  • Build in-person relationships with team members and contribute to the KIND culture that Nextdoor values  

What You’ll Bring To The Team

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or similar college level education
  • 8+ years experience, including 4+ years of public company reporting experience and 4+ years of accounting experience with Big 4 or large regional public accounting firm
  • Experience with SEC reporting through public accounting and/or SEC registrant
  • Strong working knowledge and application of GAAP, SEC regulations, and internal controls
  • Strong project management skills and ability to execute and own to resolution
  • Commitment to process improvements, best practices, and the ability to think outside the box
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills, adept at building relationships across the organization
  • High degree of dedication and ownership
  • Strong problem solving, analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to keep others informed of project progress and escalations
  • Experience with Workiva Wdesk preferred
  • Willing and eager to learn!

Compensation, benefits, perks, and recognition programs at Nextdoor come together to create one overall rewards package.

The starting salary for this role is expected to range from $130,000 - $190,000 on an annualized basis, or potentially greater in the event that your 'level' of proficiency exceeds the level expected for the role. Compensation may also vary by geography.

We also expect to award a meaningful equity grant for this role. With equal quarterly vesting, your first vest date would be within the first 3 months of your start date.
