Job Description

Job Title: Security Guard Department/Location: Security / Hinsdale, IL Shifts: Various Shifts - As needed (PRN/Registry): As Needed; Non-benefit eligible FTE: 0.2 Req. Number: 1663 Compensation: Pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to job-specific requirements, individual experience, internal pay equity, and organizational needs/budget considerations, all in alignment with our RML's compensation philosophy. Additionally, you may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program based on both individual and organizational performance. The Security Officer has the responsibility of promoting a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff at either the Chicago campus or the Hinsdale campus. This is accomplished by patrolling the facility and campus, assuring that the building is secure, responding to emergency situations, taking charge during security incidents, reporting procedures & investigations, responding to special requests as well as performing other duties as assigned. Reports to: Supervisor of Security and Director of Ancillary Services. Supervises: None PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: β€’ Performs security related activities as assigned to ensure a safe environment inside the hospital building and outside on the hospital campus. β€’ Responds to emergency situations or security threats in a professional manner, following established procedures. β€’ Participates in investigations of security incidents. β€’ Patrols the facility and campus at designated intervals to maintain order and prevent crime. β€’ Reports and documents any conditions that might constitute a security or safety hazard. Documentation is accurate, complete, and timely. β€’ Assures that offices and departments are secure when vacant. β€’ Reports unsafe conditions as well as policy infractions, takes appropriate actions to resolve issues. β€’ Monitors video management system and takes appropriate actions to respond to any potential threats or unsafe incidents. β€’ Monitors door access control system and hospital lock-out system for breaches. Ensures systems are in good working order at all times. β€’ Escorts employees and visitors throughout the campus and parking lots as required and requested. β€’ Requests support of area law enforcement agencies when required. Cooperates fully with area law enforcement when present. β€’ Provides a visible presence within facility. β€’ Monitors parking lot to ensure compliance with designated parking policies. β€’ Safely and courteously operates hospital vehicles, if needed. β€’ Relieves receptionist at front desk as assigned. Relief duties include visitor registration, transferring of calls, and annunciation of codes as needed. β€’ Maintains professional appearance which includes strict adherence to department uniform guidelines, including the issued vest, duty belt, and other equipment required to perform their job appropriately. β€’ Assists Office Services, Plant Operations, and EVS staff, if needed, which includes, but is not limited to, trash disposal and snow removal. β€’ Attends internal meetings and in-services and participates in mandatory reviews of policies and procedures. β€’ Supports the Mission and Vision of RML Specialty Hospital by demonstrating RML's Core Values of Service, Teamwork, Accountability, Integrity, Respect and Stewardship (STAIRS) in all actions. Promotes a positive patient/customer experience by exemplifying the principles of the Language of Caring in all interactions with patients, families and coworkers. β€’ Performs other duties as assigned, and as properly trained. JOB REQUIREMENTS & CHARACTERISTICS MINIMUMPREFERRED Skills & Abilities β€’ Ability to lift and carry 80 pounds β€’ Ability to walk, stand and climb stairs during most of shift. β€’ Physical ability to effectively address stressful situations, including combative patients, visitors, and employees β€’ Ability to respond quickly to emergencies, disasters, and other situations requiring physical assistance and a security presence. β€’ Good interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), teamwork, customer service, and problem solving skills. Able to work effectively with coworkers. Knowledge & Experience β€’ High school graduate or equivalent. β€’ Previous security experience. β€’ Computer skills β€’ Formal training in crisis intervention within 12 months of hire. β€’ One to two years experience in security in a health care environment. β€’ Experienced in using video management systems and access control systems. β€’ Defensive weapons training. β€’ Police officer training. β€’ Formal training in crisis intervention. License/ Certification β€’ Valid Illinois Driver’s License β€’ PERC Card Working Conditions β€’ Potential for bodily harm from contact with combative patients, visitors, and staff. β€’ Potential exposure to hazardous, infectious, or biological materials. β€’ Exposure to inclement weather.
