POSITION OVERVIEW Applications accepted from:All Persons Interested Division/Section:Transportation and Drainage Operations / Vegetation ManagementReporting Location:8002 Airline Workdays & Hours:Tuesday - Friday 6:00am - 4:30pm* • Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Stormwater Operations Branch is currently seeking to fill a Semi-Skilled Laborer position for our the Vegetation Management section. These roles are responsible for performing a variety of basic maintenance and repair tasks to support the upkeep of structures, facilities, and equipment. Typical duties include general housekeeping, minor fabrication and installation work, vehicle cleaning and servicing, and cement mixing and preparation to help maintain a safe and clean work environment. Successful candidates will operate a range of hand and power tools and may assist with tasks such as painting, roofing, carpentry, and other trade-related duties depending on the assigned area. This role may also involve driving vehicles to and from job sites. Additional miscellaneous duties may be assigned as needed. WORKING CONDITIONSThe position requires extensive, near-continuous physical exertion such as repeated lifting of very heavy objects (more than 80 pounds), deep bending, climbing steps and/or assuming awkward positions. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIEREMENTS Ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Six months of working experience are required. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
