Senior Accountant

A well-established church located in the heart of Houston is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its dynamic team. In addition to its private pre-school and Mother's Day Out program, the organization also operates a nonprofit documentary and podcast production. The ideal candidate will be a CPA with strong experience in daily accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, general ledger management, banking relationships, monthly close, and preparation of financial statements. Nonprofit experience is preferred. Accounting responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Prepare monthly, quarterly & year-end financial reports for the board • Ensure compliance with non-profit Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) • Oversee payroll, including retirement plan; record payroll transactions in general ledger; review quarterly & year-end payroll tax filings. • Accounts payable processing and expense documentation • Maintain accurate records, including journals, ledgers, receipts, and invoices • Donation and tuition revenue recognition • Pledge & capital campaign revenue recognition and tracking restricted fund balances • Auditing purchase orders and invoices • Monthly bank, credit card, and merchant services reconciliations • Account reconciliations (accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll) • Preparing and making bank deposits, as well as preparing statements for review • Prepare for and participate in a yearly financial audit • Prepare and issue vendor 1099s Minimum 2 years Quickbooks Online experience preferred.
