The successful candidate would handle a wide variety of matters ranging from consulting software hardware cloud litigation and M&A and closely partner with the business and the broader global legal team. Further the individual should be a resilient professional who is interested in new technologies willing to learn IBM and its businesses closely partner with the business teams across functions and can advise on a variety of contract and other legal matters. The candidate will be required to be a self-starter with strong Japanese and English communication skills and lead the areas of responsibilities given to him or her. This role reports to the Japan General Counsel.
Key Activities:
- Draft and negotiate contracts and commercial agreements
- Provide legal advice on any business developments including timely legal support to the business especially regarding potential legal risk and regulatory risk
- Proactively participate/lead in company initiatives related to existing or new businesses (educations obtaining subject matter expertise etc.)
- Handle various legal matters that may or may not be within comfort zone
- Communicate in both English (for global calls and matters) and Japanese (local matters)
- Think strategically and work with a number of stakeholders across borders and across various functions to achieve desired outcomes
Necessary Qualifications & Abilities
- 7-10+ year PQE for a lawyer (Japanese or non-Japanese qualified) preferable who has worked in a law firm or a corporate law department
- Strong commercial sense and business negotiation skills
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills and projects management skills
- Excellent drafting and writing skills in both Japanese & English
- Ability to produce quality work independently and under pressure
- Ability to advise and communicate with senior executives
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Japanese (native level)
