Job Description

POLITICO is seeking a strategic Senior Data Analyst to join our Data Team. This individual will play a pivotal role in optimizing our newsletter strategy across the organization. As a Senior Data Analyst, you'll be responsible for defining and optimizing key performance metrics, executing a comprehensive email strategy, and ensuring compliance with various regulations while maintaining the marketing database's health.

This newly created position reports directly to our Senior Manager of Data Analytics, and requires advanced analytical skills in CRM, lifecycle goal setting, KPI development, and overall program measurement. You'll collaborate with the data, technology, marketing and editorial teams to enhance our newsletter strategy and help POLITICO execute its strategic goals.

What You'll Do:

  • Define and optimize key performance metrics and prepare relevant dashboards to share results across the team and report findings to leadership.
  • Develop and manage a testing strategy to continuously optimize emails, forms, and entire campaigns.
  • Maintain marketing database health and compliance with regulations, including GDPR. Document and evangelize best practices and governance policies. Stay up to date on CRM and email best practices, industry insights, and SaaS tools.
  • Executes a comprehensive email strategy that engages new subscribers and improves retention.
  • Acts as the in-house technical lead for ESP improvements.
  • Works collaboratively with the agency team to develop and optimize campaign and triggered emails.
  • Analyze and report on email KPIs including deliverability, open rates, click rates, conversion rates, and opt-out rate with a focus on driving improvements to support our business goals.
  • Design and deploy multivariate tests in the email channel to identify wins and progressively optimize revenue growth.
  • Support analytics needs of the email marketing team and monitor marketing email campaign performance through customized queries and dashboards, digging into specific marketing elements to analyze impact and diagnose changes in performance.
  • Develop and maintain python-based processes that feed customized user groups into our email marketing automation system and create ETLs to pull 3rd party data into our internal data reporting systems.
  • Assist in the exploration and analysis of user behavioral, cohort analysis, LTV modeling, churn analysis and other consumer behavioral analysis to provide actionable insights and identify business opportunities.
  • Utilize various data mining and statistical techniques to drive business value from consumer transactional and subscription data.
  • Design and maintain scripts to dive into our user data sources including Postgres/Trino SQL, Snowflake, Heap, Iterable, Google Analytics and other data tools and languages
  • Validates processes, metadata and reports to assure data quality between various marketing technology systems, data warehouses and reports.

What You'll Need:

  • At least four years of email marketing and/or email analytics experience.
  • Knowledge of database and email marketing best practices i.e., deployment, testing, deliverability, performance analysis, CAN-SPAM laws, and database hygiene.
  • Strong experience in CRM and Consumer Analytics with a proven track record of driving CRM strategy and implementing effective omni-channel communications.
  • Advanced analytical skills in CRM, lifecycle goal setting, KPI development and overall program measurement.
  • Experience with the marketing automation / CRM tools: Adobe/Marketo.
  • In-depth understanding of email deliverability requirements and processes, along with data privacy regulations across North America.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices for email creative, segmentation, dynamic content, testing methodologies, deliverability, CAN-SPAM regulations, email deployment platforms, and ESPs.
  • Proficiency in SQL (Redshift/PostgreSQL a plus)
  • Proficiency in data visualization and dashboarding tools (DOMO would be a plus)
  • Experience with programming languages such as R and Python a plus
  • Experience with ETL fundamentals and ETL management & maintenance a plus
