You will have the opportunity to work on projects like...

• Predict a provider’s sub-specialization. A member’s care can be greatly enhanced if a clinician is particularly skilled in the treatment of specific conditions. For example, some neurologists might specialize in treating migraines, while others are generalists. While we can easily tell that a provider is a neurologist, we need to apply statistical techniques to insurance claims to infer their more nuanced expertise. Work like this helps us recommend the ideal physicians to meet our members’ needs, whether those be general or highly specialized.
• Recommending High Value Care. With an expanding list of products and services, we want to be able to guide our members to the best care for their needs. We’re building a platform that can understand a patient’s needs and make recommendations that satisfy those needs. This work involves analyses to understand the problem and scope approaches, modeling, prototyping, and developing an API that production services can make use of. Finally, we’ll need to partner closely with application teams to roll out this tooling

Areas of ownership...

• Lead and develop projects from end-to-end encompassing planning, design, technical implementation, debugging, roll-out to Product & Engineering, testing, and iteration
• Help maintain our clinical measurement and modeling tools, including our PySpark ML platform
• Train and improve clinical, cost, and recommendation models
• Evaluate and experiment with new technologies and tools prior to wider adoption by the team
• Operate at a level of sophistication in statistics, machine learning, or computer science that is publication-worthy
• Regularly monitor pull requests, perform code reviews, and produce excellent peer reviews on projects prior to shipping to Product & Engineering
• Work closely with analysts, data scientists, product managers, clinicians, and engineers
• Solve problems and build solutions that have a direct impact on improved clinical outcomes and longer, healthier lives for millions of people

What we look for...

• Excellent verbal communications, including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical collaborators
• Business intuition and product sense that help you identify the most impactful projects to work on to address current and future business needs (think, Data Science embedded in Product)
• More than a few years of production coding and modeling experience, and a track record of leading teams or projects with a few other individuals involved
• Work experience on a team, coordinating deliverables across complex efforts
• Experience with SQL relational databases, as well as big data
• Required: Python, SQL, linux shell scripting 
• Prior experience with Amazon Web Services
• Nice-to-Have: background in Behavioral Health or HealthTech; PySpark experience
