Job Description

Job Summary

Senior Database Administrator (DBA) that conducts the day-to-day database administration of SQL servers. In this role, DBA will be responsible for implementation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and performance of on-prem and cloud-based SQL Servers and SQL Server related platforms (e.g. SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and configure SQL server instances on-prem and Microsoft Azure.
  • Provide administration in SQL Server 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019.
  • Maintain and monitor log shipping, ETL (SSIS Packages) jobs, and encryption.
  • Oversee documentation of complex installation, configuration, and optimization procedures for automation
  • Take proactive measures to monitor, trend, and tune SQL databases.
  • Respond to database and user requests (tickets) in timely manner and provide guidance to junior DBAs.
  • Analyze SQL query plans, suggest and implement solutions to support development teams.
  • Communicate system health and performance in both production and development environment to leadership.
  • Responsible for ensuring databases are backed up and can be recovered.
  • Conduct system maintenance activities including reviewing error logs and user-reported errors, then perform root cause analysis and develop remediation plans.
  • Proactively monitor system health to reduce interruptions and server crashes including transaction logs and disk space usage.
  • Assist in data environment development, testing and release activities, including SQL object development, data copies and region synchronization.
  • Create and oversee the implementation of policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines to effectively administer the database environment.
  • Provide on call support for incident events related to database environments for a specific solution delivery domain.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in general business, Finance, Actuarial Science, Analytics or Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 6-8 years of experience as a system and application DBA with SQL Server
  • Experience with performance tuning and optimizing database queries, objects, and configurations.
  • Experience with Snowflake administration, as well as directing the activities and coordinating support across Database teams preferred.
  • Experience automating, scripting, and streamlining processes preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent understanding of the following technologies: MS SQL 2014+, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Database Monitoring tools, Windows OS
  • Excellent knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS)
  • Working knowledge of MS Exchange, Active Directory, DNS, GPOs, File Shares, and cloud environments.
  • Strong data modeling skills (Conceptual, Logical and Physical models), and experience using Erwin or similar data modeling tools.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) concepts and other IT best practices
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting, scheduling tools, data integration tools, and monitoring tools preferred.
  • Fast, adaptive learner with ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in fast paced, multi workstream environment and be able to effectively report on progress, prioritize, and delegate to others where necessary.
  • Exhibits flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity, strong work ethic, and a results-oriented work style.
  • Ability to lead team by creating plans to achieve team goals, as well as mentoring and developing skills of others.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills, leveraging conflict resolution skills where necessary.

  • Minimal travel required (less than 10%)
