Job Description
Corcept is a commercial-stage company engaged in the discovery and development of drugs to treat severe endocrine, metabolic, oncologic and neurological disorders by modulating the effects of the hormone cortisol. Since 2012, we have marketed Korlym® for the treatment of patients suffering from Cushing’s syndrome, a life-threatening orphan disorder caused by excess cortisol activity. In 2022, we generated revenue of $402 million and net income of $101 million.
We have discovered a portfolio of more than 1,000 proprietary selective cortisol modulators. Our lead compounds are in Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials for the treatment of patients with Cushing’s syndrome, advanced ovarian cancer, castration-resistant prostate cancer and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (“ALS”). We plan to initiate a Phase 2b trial in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (“NASH”) by the end of this year. Every year, we advance new molecules to the clinic.
Over the next few years, we expect to submit several new drug applications.
Generate strategic vision and apply cross-functional leadership skills necessary to develop and successfully commercialize Corcept’s Endocrine Division therapeutics. The emphasis for the role will be on longer-range (2-5 year) pipeline (phase-3) and launch planning for endocrine therapeutics (relacorilant). Additional, core responsibilities will include franchise business development (opportunity maximization) and competitive intelligence (risk mitigation) strategic direction. Additional responsibilities will include generating and maintaining 2-5 year commercial plans and providing inputs for related forecasts for endocrine division therapeutics. The role is also responsible for portfolio lifecycle management and franchise strategy (e.g. multi-product franchise promotion strategy). The ideal candidate will have significant new product launch and cross-functional leadership experience. The right candidate will have deep analytical skills and demonstrated ability to translate market research and insights into clear strategic direction that is readily moved to effective tactics. Strong executive presence and exceptional communication will be necessary. The selected candidate will meaningfully shape the strategic direction of Corcept’s flagship endocrinology portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Strategy & Pipeline Planning
- Collaboratively lead the cross-functional development of effective (& executable) marketing strategies for endocrine division therapeutics (relacorilant & franchise). This will include forward looking commercial/brand plans for the endocrine division portfolio of Cushing’s treatments.
- Responsible for draft relacorilant (in phase-3, endo.) labeling, evolves relacorilant target product profile (TPP), finalizes brand naming, creates product/portfolio positioning, delivers high-level messaging. May develop early campaign creative, high-level US-focused payer assumptions and/or HEOR value-story data requests. Also tasked with updating commercial leadership team on pipeline product developments.
- Establishes conference strategy for new audiences (radiology, cardiology – non Cushing’s audiences).
- Develops select (long range) market research projects to inform development of pipeline therapeutics and advancement of key business development initiatives.
- Leads new product planning and pipeline commercial strategy for endocrinology (phase-3 to PDUFA). Build the launch plan and mobilize resources for commercialization of relacorilant in endocrinology.
- Generates competitive intelligence assessments with cross-functional action recommendations. Ensures recommendations are incorporated into the 1-year commercial plan (led by Directors of Marketing), 2-5 year commercial plans (led by Sr. Director Commercial Strategy) and forecasts (led by Director of Analytics).
- Partners with internal forecasting teams to develop forward looking, patient-based commercial demand/revenue estimates.
- Effectively communicates with cross-functional partners to gain support for, and alignment to, the strategic direction and initiatives of the Endocrine Division.
- Generates therapeutic landscape assessments, product-based SWOTs and related opportunities-enhancement and risk-mitigation recommendations. Lead cross-functional strategic planning meetings.
- Translates future commercial needs into effective product labeling, in concert with clinical, medical and regulatory. Ensures desired future promotional claims are compliantly supported with product labeling.
- Ensures aligned commercial perspectives are communicated to development teams.
- Partners with Market Access to inform HEOR data generation and inclusion within development programs.
- Business Strategy & Disease Awareness
- Leads creation of business development strategies with a strong focus on appropriate expansion of hypercortisolism (endogenous Cushing’s) awareness, diagnosis and treatment.
- Provides strategic recommendations to develop unbranded disease awareness/education initiatives including (but not limited to) enhanced awareness, increased diagnosis and adherence; particularly as relates to pre-commercial market-shaping.
- Creates, maintains and cross-functionally disseminates endocrine therapeutic lexicon platform, as a part of the hypercortisolism awareness/diagnosis project and broader franchise strategy focus of the role.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Clinical, Medical, Market Access, Finance, Business Development, Legal, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Marketing & Sales leadership.
- Functions as competitive intelligence lead and ensures up to date knowledge of competitive activity, providing Endocrine Division leadership with related recommendations.
- Builds assessments for, and quantification of, business development opportunities for commercial therapeutics (e.g. market expansion & disease awareness strategies).
- Creates data-driven insights and recommendations to ensure sustainable Endocrine Division growth.
- Identifies, selects, manages and evaluates external agencies, consultants and vendors to develop long range strategic marketing initiatives in support of Endocrine Division growth efforts.
- Leads cross-functional commercial/medical teams in development of 2-5 year strategic commercial plan for Endocrine Division therapeutics (mifepristone & relacorilant).
- Leads development and facilitation of war gaming exercises to ensure Corcept is prepared for various future scenarios including increased competition, evolving payer landscape, generic entrants and future competitive product launches.
- Collaborates with Corporate Communications to provide inputs into endocrine-related Corporate Communications initiatives and to identify opportunities to enhance corporate awareness and build a positive Corcept corporate image.
Preferred Skills, Qualifications and Technical Proficiencies:
- Advanced understanding of legal, regulatory and business compliance considerations is required.
- Significant pre-commercial launch planning experience; ideally in rare-disease or specialty care.
- Launch experience in both strategic (marketing) and tactical (sales/sales leadership) roles.
- Versed in development of brand, portfolio, market-shaping and market-expansion strategies
- Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional consensus with complex concepts and initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to translate strategic direction into effective promotional tactics
- Experience managing competitive intelligence and strategic competitive planning.
- Demonstrated experience with personal, non-personal and digital omni-channel promotion.
- Marketing leadership experience in a combination of small and large biopharmaceutical
- Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor strategic marketing metrics.
- Experience working in startup or emerging biopharmaceutical firms is desired.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with, focus, resolve conflict and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures, and disciplines.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree (M.B.A., Pharm.D., PhD.) is advantageous.
- 15+ years of biopharmaceutical experience with 5-10 years in commercial planning, marketing, new product planning and/or portfolio management roles. The pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position is $242,600 - $285,400; the pay ultimately offered may vary based on legitimate considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. An annual cash bonus and equity grants may be provided as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other wellness benefits, dependent on the position offered.
