Job Description
Dotdash Meredith is looking for a Senior Director of Research and Insights to lead our research strategy for our Beauty, Style, & Entertainment brands (Byrdie, InStyle, Brides, People, Entertainment Weekly, & more).
Dotdash Meredith is #1 in beauty & style on the internet, reaching over 27 million unique users a month, and in the top 10 in entertainment, reaching nearly 79 million unique users a month (almost as many as Netflix!). Our high-quality content is aimed at helping people make decisions, find inspiration, and act. And our first-party data is at the heart of informing everything we do.
As the Senior Director leading this group, it will be your responsibility to build deep partnerships with Dotdash Meredith's cross-departmental leaders including the Chief Revenue Officer, our VP of Marketing, and each brand's General Managers for this vertical. You will build, support, and enhance strategic research plans across the organization using Dotdash Meredith's unique first-party data, custom primary research, and syndicated/external data sources.
About Your Contributions:
- Be the authority on our audiences on our Beauty, Style, & Entertainment sites.
- Be the expert on and evangelize our brand positioning across the organization to promote revenue growth.
- Provide the Research point of view in sales meetings, internal meetings, and conferences as needed.
- Partnering with sales leadership and their team by becoming an expert on their business and providing strategic in-depth, authoritative insights in line with overall brand and business strategies-whether in response to a single RFP or to grow a larger client relationship.
- Provide leadership for first-party and primary research projects.
- Translate stakeholder objectives to research needs; identify appropriate research techniques, data sources, and partners; manage projects from start to finish; ensure findings are packaged appropriately for all internal stakeholders; present findings to internal and external audiences as needed.
- Work with large data sets to synthesize information and draw out key insights.
- Use syndicated, first-party, and primary research findings to guide business decisions.
- Demonstrate exceptional communication and collaborative abilities including excellent research storytelling skills that allow you to draw out key insights and communicate them in compelling and engaging ways.

- Own both short-term and long-term insight roadmaps to drive results.
- Collaborate closely with the revenue, content, product, and marketing teams to provide impactful insights that support their strategic plans, helping to shape those plans as appropriate.
- Proactively identify opportunities for Research to better support the business

About You:
- 7+ years of research and analytics experience, with experience in the media landscape and/or beauty, style or entertainment industries
- Understand the digital advertising landscape, products, and trends that are important to industry media buyers.
- Strong interest in engaging with and understanding key audiences, topics, trends, and events to tie market and world events to audience insights and present a point of view that is appropriate for and in context with these industries.
- Expertise in working with large data sets to synthesize information and draw out key insights.
- Expertise in using multiple sources of data and information (whether syndicated, quantitative, qualitative, secondary, etc.) to guide business decisions.
- Experience managing and mentoring analysts' teams of five or more.
- You are a true self-starter who provides proactive ideas, understand
- organizational goals, and moves initiatives forward - with a proven track record of leading projects from start to finish and delivering business value.
- You are an excellent communicator with outstanding research storytelling skills which allow you to draw out key insights and can tailor compelling and engaging messages for different audiences.
- You are a strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- You are a true self-starter - provide proactive ideas, understand organizational goals, and make it happen.
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and an ability to prioritize on-the-fly based on shifting business needs.
- Possess a strong desire to understand the humans on the other end of the data--moving beyond reporting to building and sharing an understanding of relevant audiences.
- Solid grasp of statistics, digital engagement metrics, and research methodologies
- Expertise with syndicated resources like MRI, Comscore, YouGov and data visualization, business intelligence, and/or cross-tabulation tools such as Looker, Tableau, eTelmar, NewAge
- College degree required.

Pay Range
Salary: $116081 - $165830
The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Dotdash Meredith's total compensation package for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, and short- and long-term incentives.
