Job Description:
Hot Section Engineering is seeking an experienced structures engineer to join the Operational Commercial Engines (OCE) structures team, with responsibility for the durability and structural integrity of hot section engine components. Analyses may include both classical methods and detailed FEA. This position offers the opportunity to support and learn about rotor/shaft/airfoil/static structures across most of Pratt's successful commercial and dual-used engine programs. Opportunity to travel to domestic & international customer site is available to allow firsthand learning. OCE group offers unique environment to learn about engine hardware and real time engine operation. The candidate will have the advantage to correlate analytical analysis with service experience. As a senior engineer, the candidate will have the regular opportunity to present findings and results up the leadership chain from CIPT (Component Integrated Product Team) to PCE (Program Chief Engineer) to external customer. This role offers meaningful and rewarding career development and broadening opportunities for a future leader.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify & assist in planning tasks, leading sub-teams to deliver results with cross-functional integration.
- Independently perform structural analysis of components via hand calculations and finite element analysis.
- Participate (lead) in service investigation, identify root cause, support safety risk analysis and balanced fleet managing action.
- Team up with other disciplines in IPT/CIPT to identify balanced solutions to technical tasks to improve performance or address root cause of known issue.
- Document and present results to management and external customers.
- Perform structural analysis through preliminary & detailed design phases including FEA modeling and stress analysis, strength, buckling, ultimate load, fatigue life, crack growth life, vibration, and HCF.
- Learn and support blades/vanes, HPT/LPT rotors, low/high spool shafts, diffuser case, combustor, HPT/LPT and Turbine Exhaust cases (TEC)
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 5+ years of prior relevant experience, or Master's Degree in a related field and 3+ years of prior relevant experience.
- US Citizenship due to government contract.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ANSYS Basic/Workbench, also PW lifting tools (PWLIFE, SURCK). UG, LS-Dyna, FRANC3D, DARWIN are good additional skills.
- Experience with safety investigation. Familiar with CPR and SRA processes. Ability to work with MPE groups (failure analysis, NDE group, applied mechanic) and safety engineers.
- The preferred candidate will also have strong communication and task leadership/coordination skills.
- Effective Communication Skills (verbal/written); able to work effectively on teams.
- Ability to provide oversight of outsourcing (O/S) tasks and lead O/S team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
- Pro-active in helping team stay focused, drive design decisions, and avoid schedule slip
- Desire for continuous learning and innovation.
- Experience with running MS Office.
