Senior Engineering Manager

The Opportunity 

As a Senior Engineering Manager at Beyond Identity, you are integral to a next generation Secure Access product which is core to Beyond Identity’s mission to protect the livelihood of our customers. It will be designed with a security-first mindset and zero shared secrets architecture. As a Senior Engineering Manager focusing on Policy and Authentication, you’ll lead a team of talented engineers responsible for building and scaling our core policy engine and authentication stack. Your leadership will bridge technical execution and strategic vision, driving innovation in secure, contextual access control.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer Manager with the highest levels of technical talent, soft skills and desire to deeply understand our product.

This position is hybrid and preference will be given to candidates in the New York, Dallas or Austin areas.

What You Can Expect to Do:

• Manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of engineers specializing in backend, policy, authentication protocols, and secure infrastructure.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, encouraging innovation and ownership.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development plans.
• Oversee the architecture and development of Beyond Identity’s policy engine and authentication stack.
• Drive the adoption of secure and scalable solutions for Zero Trust access models, continuous authentication, and contextual policies.
• Collaborate with DevOps and Security teams to ensure reliability, scalability, and compliance.
• Define and prioritize technical roadmaps in alignment with product goals.
• Manage project progress and timelines of the team. Ensure on-time delivery of projects while maintaining high-quality engineering practices.
• Balance competing priorities, such as rapid innovation and technical debt management.
• Partner with Product, Security, and other engineering teams to deliver seamless integrations.
• Act as the technical voice in strategic discussions, bridging engineering and business needs.
• Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies to maintain Beyond Identity’s competitive edge.
• Research products and designs of other companies in the industry. Bring insights to guide product development in Beyond Identity.
• Contribute to the company’s long-term strategy for IAM innovation.

What We Hope You’ll Bring:

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in management roles.
• Expertise in authentication protocols (e.g., OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, FIDO2) and policy engines (e.g., Open Policy Agent, XACML, or custom solutions).
• Strong programming skills in Go, Rust, Python, or similar backend languages.
• Experience with scalable, distributed systems and cloud-native infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes).
• Strong experience in applying engineering processes and practices in teams.
• Deep understanding of security practices for IAM, including Zero Trust models, MFA, and continuous authentication.

• Proven ability to lead and grow engineering teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Strong cross-functional communication skills, collaborating with product managers, designers, and security teams.
• A track record of successfully managing complex, multi-team projects.
