Your Opportunity

Scion’s Learning & Development department is seeking a Senior Instructional Designer in its Chicago Office to produce performance-focused learning solutions for its corporate and community-based employees. This position is responsible for working with various business groups to assess training needs based on skills gap analysis and develop the appropriate content for new and existing employees.

In this currently evolving role, you will be an architect and leader in leading the design and development of course offerings using your expertise in adult learning theory, instructional design, and human performance improvement expertise.

Success in this role requires excelling in a high-volume, agile corporate environment, being self-motivated, being a team player, having the ability to achieve results with minimal to no supervision, being highly conceptual, and the ability to effectively challenge the status quo.

Your Responsibilities

  • Use your exceptional ability to earn the trust of and work well with subject matter experts to assess training content gaps and lead the development of the necessary materials.
  • Participate in leading the creation of training development standards, processes, and templates to provide visual and cognitive continuity.
  • Create the end-to-end solution for new instructor-led (ILT) and web-based (WBT) courses and learning programs, aligned to performance objectives, including learning tools, performance support aids, formative and summative evaluations, narration, recordings, and other instructional materials (including handouts, checklists, manuals, knowledge checks/assessments, presentations, scripts, and videos, etc.).
  • Use development software and tools to create and edit course content, graphics, photos, and other supporting materials.
  • Support and audit corporate and community-based training sessions to ensure materials are effective and to improve the current training library.
  • Help create and maintain a library of reusable assets such as photos, videos, iconography, and templates for training content.
  • Write, review, edit, and present information (learning content, formal business documents, presentations) ensuring proper use of grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and brand guidelines.
  • Review and test content for accuracy, usability, and functionality.
  • Develop evaluations/assessments to measure knowledge gain and ROI.
  • Stay up to date on the latest industry trends, research new strategies, and provide recommendations for the most effective learning solutions to remain relevant, impactful, and innovative.

What We Require

  • BA/BS degree in Adult Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field.
  • 8-10 years of work experience with a solid career progression in the field of instructional design, including significant experience in designing and delivering learning solutions to large organizations to achieve learning objectives.
  • Solid project management skills including planning work, managing details, keeping multiple tasks/projects on track, using time well, and working with stakeholders.
  • Deliver Results: manage your projects amidst ambiguity, competing priorities, and challenging deadlines.
  • Proven success listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
  • Proven experience working with complex content and creating outstanding learning solutions via multiple delivery modalities (i.e., Paper-based, ILT, WBT, Virtual, Performance Support Tools, etc.).
  • Demonstrated course development using various authoring tools (Articulate 360, strongly preferred).
  • Visual design skills: incorporate or create images and graphics that support and enhance learning content.
  • Minimally 2-3 years of experience working with learning management systems.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Perform other relevant duties and special projects, as assigned.
  • Ability to travel: 10 – 20% in a year.
