About the role:

The Betr team is seeking a skilled Senior Java/Kotlin Backend Developer to assist in the development of the handling of all streaming sports data into the Betr systems. The majority of the betting logic is written in PHP while all the heavy lifting around managing odds is built using Kotlin. Although Kotlin experience is preferred it is not a requirement for this position as a JVM developer will have no issues learning Kotlin.

What You'll Do:

• Ability to build amazing consumer experiences taking responsibility for code quality scalability reliability and performance.

• Experience with good testing practices in a microservices architecture.

• Work closely with product managers designers and other engineers to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

• Strong communication skills the ability to articulate complex and technical concepts across teams & understand the value of over communication (engineering teams succeed and fail based on the level of communication).

• Practice disciplined software engineering are passionate about writing clean readable code & are constantly striving to improve the code you encounter.

• Experienced in Agile methodologies and Scrum practices and adapting these principles to enhance team efficiency and product quality.

• Committed to continuous improvement and innovation with a track record of seeking out opportunities to evolve processes tools and techniques.

About You:

• 8+ years of experience writing code on the JVM

• Experience with Kafka. *You will be expected to be the expert on the team with this technology.

• Know more than 1 programming language

• Understand the value of writing unit tests

• Experience working remotely on complex problems

• Knowledge of database design and SQL

• Detail oriented with the ability to manage & ensure quality work (completeness & accuracy)

• Excellent verbal written and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively

• Self-motivated positive attitude and able to drive initiatives from end-to-end

• An entrepreneurial mindset with excellent organizational skills the ability to be flexible & prioritize responsibilities
