Job Description

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organisation:

  • The generative design process presents a new way of thinking and a new approach on how to bring ideas to the market in a more effective and efficient way. At the intersection of technology and design use methods as computational-design, digital technologies and additive-manufacturing to set the foundation for new ways of working.
  • Responsible for advanced 3D and 2D creation of Creative and Technical information for the Footwear Development process.
  • Drive effective transition of footwear concepts from prototyping until handover time to Inline Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced 2D and 3D expertise in cross functional projects made up of designers, developers, technical engineers, brand, and business strategists
  • Design and create, using algorithmic and parametric methods, future concepts and ideas with a focus on aesthetics (computational Design)
  • Lead creative and technical tools and concepts for the Business Unit, maintain digital process solutions.
  • Connect insights to design and collaborate, guide and supervise "Technical Managers Advanced 3D" to create innovative products, services, spaces, interactions, and experiences.
  • Develos innovative improvement strategies & helps to define process visions supported by 3D technology
  • Identify and addresses opportunities for intellectual property safeguarding and support IP safeguarding implementation
  • Establishes advanced working relationships and a people's network with internal and external technology experts in his area of responsibility
  • Ensure Concept and creation readiness towards manufacturability and maintain constant exchange with manufacturing experts towards production
  • Translates complicated technological facts into business opportunities
  • Enable faster Decision making within Marketing, Design and Development through virtual prototyping and photorealistic product visualization.
  • Lead own concept ideas and independently plan, execute & evaluate exploration projects in cooperation with the Design team, T1& T2 suppliers, HQ sample shop and Makers Lab with a hands on mentality
  • Define, drive and document projects as part of the "explore and advanced 3D team" to create and further develop concepts and new technologies to be used in future seasons.
  • Research within other industries to discover adaptable concepts for footwear (online research, supplier and fair visits)
  • Communicates and presents new 3D technology opportunities process technologies to internal interfaces to ensure the technology development meets customers' expectations
  • Document findings and present them to the cross functional teams including marketing and design for review on potential inclusion into future footwear products,
  • Prepare best practice manuals for new processes and help to imbed these into inline development calendars, train and onboard "Technical Managers Advanced 3D" within the Team

People Management:

  • Build the appropriate structure to be able to manage the respective organization effectively, identify and develop the future talents and create realistic succession scenarios for key positions.
  • Ensure appropriate leadership skills are present at every level through creating a motivational and supportive work environment in which employees are coached, trained and provided with career opportunities through development.
  • Allocate the different topics and work streams to the respective teams and employees considering experience, complexity, workload and organizational efficiency.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate team workload and organizational efficiency with the support of systems, data and analysis and team feedback and make appropriate changes in order to meet business needs.
  • Provide team members/direct reports with clear direction and targets that are aligned with business needs and Legal objectives.
  • Establish and maintain regular exchange within the Product Operations Area with other Experts, People Managers and Directors across necessary functions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Management skills preferred
  • Extensive 3D and CAD work experience
  • Passion for tinkering, experimenting and trying out new technologies and hardware
  • Grasshopper for Rhino 3D, Houdini, Blender, [FF1] Z-Brush or other comparable tools
  • Output to machines such as additive manufacturing technologies, 3D printing, CNC milling, knitting or other computer to machine methods
  • Knowledge in the latest trends in technology and design
  • Highly collaborative
  • Extensive Communication Skills
  • Fluent in English; German an advantage
  • Basic understanding of the technical aspects of computer graphics
  • Knowledge in 3D Animation, Rigging, or scripting is a plus

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

  • University Degree or comparable education in industrial design, mechanical engineering, multimedia art, media informatics, communication design and/ or computer graphics
  • Minimum of 6 years related work experience
  • First experience in people management

  • The anticipated low and high end of the base pay range for this position is $145,000-$155,000. Actual salary will be based on various factors, such as a candidate's experience, qualifications, skills and competencies, proficiency for the role.
  • We officially returned to office in a hybrid work environment, working 3 days in office and 2 days remote. The working location of this position is Los Angeles.
  • Though our teammates hail from all corners of the world, our working language is English.
