Job Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Finance, the Senior Payroll Specialist (Paymaster) is responsible for managing and processing payroll for various Rodeo entities, including operations in Canada and the United States, according to payroll schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Payroll Master for payroll production
- Oversee and manage the entire payroll processing cycle for non-union employees
- Coordinate and manage the payroll schedule, ensuring all deadlines are met
- Ensure compliance with all relevant payroll, tax, and employee benefits laws and regulations
- Handle complex payroll calculations, retroactive adjustments, and benefits deductions
- Lead the year-end payroll process, including reconciliation and audit
- Work closely with the Payroll Master in daily tasks
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee payroll records
- Collaborate with the HR department to ensure seamless integration of payroll and HR data
- Prepare and submit tax filings and other statutory reports
- Provide assistance and support to employees regarding payroll inquiries and issues
- Implement and maintain payroll systems and software, ensuring efficient and effective operations
- Develop, document, and implement payroll policies and procedures to improve efficiency and compliance
- Collaborate with external auditors and participate in audits as needed
Qualifications
- 7 years of experience in a similar role
- Completion of the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification or equivalent experience
- Possess an accreditation from the National Payroll Institute (NPI)
- Knowledge of UKG payroll/HR software is an asset
- Proficient in MS Office suite (intermediate Excel including pivot tables)
- Knowledge of labor standards and provincial (multi-province) and federal laws
- Knowledge of US payroll is an asset
- Strong organizational skills, autonomy, and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure
- Strong, collaborative, and solution-oriented team spirit
- Discretion (confidential information)
- Proven ability to manage a rapidly changing environment
- Exceptional organizational skills, autonomy, and a keen eye for detail
