Senior Platform Support Engineer

Schonfeld Strategic Advisors LLC has an opening for a Senior Platform Support Engineer  (Platform Support US) in New York, NY and Miami, FL.

The position duties are as follows: Provide front line, round the clock support for Schonfeld’s quantitative trading platform. Utilize strong SQL database skills and experience with MySQL, Sybase, Oracle and DB2 to design, develop, and modify where necessary the company’s trading platform, as well as collaborate with development teams to ensure quality and performance of our product environment.  Day-to-day duties will include:

• Working as part of a diverse and collaborative software development team, determine system performance standards and develop blueprints for our qualitative trading platform and ensure successful deployment of new code into production;
• Using MySQL, Sybase, Oracle and DB2 to develop resilient, scalable and performant near real-time data processing solutions to deliver critical trading data on-demand to the company’s traders, analysts and operations specialists;
• Using scripting tools such as Python, Bash, Shell and Perl to build application authorization solutions that issue permissions to users based on specified criteria to safeguard data from unauthorized access;
• Building automated processes to handle repeated manual processes carried out by operations specialists;
• Gather requirements and design and architect solutions for monitoring, deployment and administration of trading system components. This requires a comprehensive understanding of the systems involved, the business usage of those systems and the key performance indicators, as well as a deep understanding of the monitoring system and various methods for non-invasive capture of application metrics and status;
• Manage incidents in a lead capacity. This involves managing and coordinating all aspects of an incident, including not just the hands-on triage and technical remediation, but also performing impact assessment, assessing severity, coordinating notifications and escalations, assigning task ownership, documenting the incident timeline, capturing post-incident follow-up actions and post-mortems and ensuring all stakeholders and management have clear and timely communication.  This also includes running incident calls, post-mortems, and retrospectives;
• Manage communications with business partners, including not only notifications but also being able to effectively answer questions in clear language and with a focus on and understanding of business priorities;
• Act as a mentor and role-model to other members of the team. This includes being seen as a subject matter expert, as well as being able to patiently and clearly provide guidance and training; and
• Manage mid-scale projects that may extend several weeks and involve cross-team dependencies and coordination. This requires being able to effectively bring together members of multiple teams and guide the collaborative design of a solution, assign tasks, agree on milestones and deliverables and then coordinate and manage the project to success by not only contributing at a technical level but also holding everyone accountable for their tasks, identifying and resolving blockers and tracking slippage, all while providing clear and timely updates on project status to management and escalating appropriately.

The position requires a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely-related technical field or foreign equivalent, followed by 4 years of progressively responsible experience providing platform/technical support within the financial services domain. Experience must include:

1. 3 years experience diagnosing and troubleshooting issues with electronic trading systems, such as tracing orders through their entire lifecycle, validating reference data is accurate and correctly loaded by all components, investigating order rejects, understanding risk limits, locates and common failure scenarios, issues with drop-copies, handling component failure and restoration, with an understanding of the business risks associated and how to mitigate them
2. 3 years of experience analyzing multi-asset classes, including Equities and FX
3. 3 years of experience with pre- and post- trade workflows and associated technologies, including a comprehensive understanding of pre-trade analytics, common order generation strategies and the reference data associated with them, and in depth knowledge of the booking and settlement processes, including post-trade reconciliation and common causes of market and booking breaks.
4. 2 years experience with market data feeds and associated meta-data
5. 4 years experience with incident management, including experience with the incident lifecycle
6. 4 years of experience with incident tracking tools and ticketing systems
7. 4 years experience communicating directly with business users and non-technical stakeholders
8. 2 years experience configuring and customizing monitoring and alerting tools (including vendor products such as Geneos, Nageos, and Prometheus, or custom systems)
9. 3 years of experience performing  application monitoring and metrics collection and analysis
10. 2 years experience using Linux to perform system administration and configuration
11. 2 years experience with scripting languages including Python and Bash
12. 2 years experience with TCP/IP networking, including an understanding of firewalls, packet routing and common connection troubleshooting tools and techniques.
13. 2 years experience with using SQL database systems as a user (including creating and optimizing queries, and  understanding DB schema)

Telecommuting permitted up to two (2) days per week.

The base pay for this role is expected to be between $160,000 to $230,000. The expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation such as a performance bonus and a competitive benefits package. Actual compensation for the successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.
