Job Description
As a Senior Principal Designer of the Personal Systems business at HP, you'll be an instrumental member of HP's global team of designers responsible for developing iconic products and experiences.
This position is a lead role in design with focus on setting design & experience strategies across product categories. In addition to core responsibilities this individual will also have a unique opportunity to lead exciting new product categories for HP.
Success in this role requires solid experience in developing world-class consumer electronics. Applicants for the role need to have a history in crafting design solutions at a portfolio level and demonstrate design thoughtfulness that scale beyond the aesthetics of the hardware to incorporate digital, physical, and, or services to complete the experience of the product as it relates to the intended customer. You'll demonstrate holistic solution that is grounded on research-based insights.
The role of Senior Principal Designer will be supremely collaborative. Achieving goals within the greater HP design organization will require guiding experienced designers, working closely with trend forecasters, advance engineers, and human factors specialists. In addition to core design team activities, you will need to be a master story telling, creating compelling narratives to communicate to non-designers such as customers, partners, stake holders.
On a typical day you might:
- Design products with holistic thinking across hardware, software, service experiences
- Work with global team members to achieve product success through production
- Solve customer unarticulated pain points and delight them with curated experiences
- Design excellence by aligning leading edge technologies with customer insights and customer experiences

To be successful in this role, you need to have experience:
- Using SolidWorks, Creo, Alias, Rhino or other 3D CAD software as a mechanical design tool.
- Leveraging analytical and data to solve business problems
- Understanding the history of innovation with multiple patents in the field of electronics packaging.
- Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at business unit and executive levels
- creating a compelling design / solution narrative for a broad audience that are non-designers
Education and Experience Needed:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial or Product Design or equivalent.
- Typically 10+ years' experience.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is $157,550 - $242650 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
