As the Senior Principal Engineer - Enterprise Architect for the O.C. Tanner Company, you will be vital to our success. The Enterprise Architect is responsible for creating and maintaining the technical vision of the software we build at OC Tanner. A Senior Principal Engineer represents the pinnacle of engineering attributes, including problem-solving, communication, leadership, technological understanding, software design patterns, and more. If mentoring your peers and guiding the technical direction of our software is exciting to you, then this may be the position for you. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work autonomously and advise IT leadership with additional input, direction, and vision for O.C. Tanner's product and platform implementations
- Establish relationships and build trust among IT and business leadership. You will use these connections and communication skills to synthesize and analyze data, data access, data services, application stacks, database usage, product direction, and business rules.
- Lead a team of architects as you prioritize their efforts in guiding other engineering teams
- Perform regular coaching sessions, performance reviews, and 1x1's to provide career development opportunities and skill development opportunities for your team
- Participate as a decision-maker in the Architecture Coalition process, assessing and approving preliminary designs
- Engage with the VP of Enterprise Architecture and Director of Enterprise Architecture to help set short term and long-term vision of technology built at OC Tanner
- Present high-level strategies to executive leadership across the company
- Own the state of software system diagrams, following up with architect or engineers as needed to keep them up to date
- Create clear requirements for platform teams (COBRA, Core, and DevX) to enable the support of your designs
- Guide and consult with other engineering teams on critical design or performance issues
- Includes giving team members opportunities to design while steering them clear of problematic designs
- Conduct code reviews and approve pull requests based on standards you have established
- Preserve and automate the deployment of developer source code assets
- Create, publish, and evangelize development standards and guides
- Contribute to cross-team libraries or services that create consistency of developer experience across all of software engineering
- Evaluate and recommend technology choices to proactively meet O.C. Tanner business strategy
- Stay abreast of architecture trends and best practices. Attend at least one architecture or development conference each year, sharing learnings with peer group and manager
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years experience in software development
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Extensive experience in defining and supporting product application architecture
- Extensive knowledge of CI/CD pipelines
- Extensive experience with designing distributed systems
- Implementation of security best practices within products
- Implementation of tech stack best practices within products
- Experience with Kafka topics and Avro schemas for integration, or similar technology
- Experience establishing and driving architectural direction within an organization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
