Job Description Summary

Leads the product design and planning design development testing and release of new products and product improvements. Projects include Powder Forging and Conventional Powder Metal components, requiring inclusion of technical and business context and solving of routine and non-routine problems.

Job Description

• Captures and comprehends customer requirements by supporting the team prior to and during customer interface meetings.
• Researches and records historical and benchmark information regarding the customer's need.
• Builds and maintains a record of potential risks with the product design.
• Translates customer requirements into product specifications; works with customer representatives to ensure their desired features and performance levels are accurately comprehended in product specifications.
• Compiles reports and completes documentation to facilitate the product development process; acquires an approved product number for the current product development cycle.
• Validates the design of new products or product improvements by completing various analyses such as stack-ups, DFMEA, Finite Element Analysis, Design for Assembly/ Manufacturing studies, and Noise, Vibration, and Harshness studies.
• Participates in various technical reviews throughout the product development cycle; prepares technical presentations and communicates to various partners.
• Establishes key product characteristics and develops a bill of materials for an approved design.
• Coordinates the testing and validation of product designs; gains prototype and part approval.
• Attains final authorization, documentation, and release to production of a new product or product improvement design.
• Completes design drawings or other documentation; acquires drawing approval and issuance of notice of release; supports product launch activities.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations that explain products or services to customers and prospective customers.
• Research and identify potential customers for products or services.
• Provide technical and non-technical support and services to clients or other staff members regarding the use, operation, and maintenance of equipment.
• Recommend improved materials or machinery to customers, documenting how such changes will lower costs or increase production.
• Estimating the Quantifiable Characteristics of Products, Events, or Information

Required Skills and Education

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or related and product experience
• Product experience with connecting rod/engine components is a plus
