Senior Safety Policy Engineer

Mission Summary

Motional is developing an autonomous robo-taxi service and is working closely with commercial partners to safely achieve fully driverless operation. An important component of this work is coordination with government entities and engagement with the public to grow their trust in the technology. 

This role will be within the Safety Policy and Commercial Safety team in the Enterprise Safety Department. It will require leading cross-functional work that spans a technical and policy scope, involving engineering (safety, system, hardware and software), operations, public policy, legal, and communications. These multi-disciplinary projects will require collaboration with technical contributors to draft various types of public-facing documents and obtain internal approval at various levels. Above all, this work will underscore and support Motional’s commitment to safety. 

What you'll be doing:

• Lead multi-disciplinary projects that increase public awareness of Motional’s advances in safety technology
• Author various types of public-facing documents, involving collaboration with technical, legal, public policy and communications colleagues
• Collaborate with the engineering and autonomy teams to develop an understanding of key technical concepts and communicate these concepts appropriately to internal and external audiences
• Contribute to the Safety Policy team’s objectives and collaborate within Enterprise Safety and cross-functionally to promote a strong safety culture

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related engineering field
• Strong technical writing skills
• Ability to lead and manage projects with diverse stakeholders from start to finish
• Excellent communication skills
• Enthusiasm and a desire to work in a very fast-paced environment where innovation and rapid change is the norm

Bonus points (not required):

• Experience working in the automotive or AV industry
• Understanding of government relations and public policy

• The employee is occasionally required to remain stationary at times for up to 50% of working time, move in designated working areas; & operate and use office equipment
• The employee must occasionally move up to 50 pounds
