Senior Software Engineer (Autoscaling)

Neon is an open-source company on a mission to create a cloud-native Postgres database as a service for every developer

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who will join our Autoscaling team.

The Autoscaling team is dedicated to the development and maintenance of a suite of components that enable deploying and automatic scaling of Postgres virtual machines to handle varying loads. 

You will

• Join an experienced team and contribute to the Neon virtual machine infrastructure
• Participate in the design and implementation of our infrastructure
• Write low-level system code related to Kubernetes, virtual machines, containers, networking and more.
• Drive excellence through the team and implement the world’s best practices
• Participate in our on-call rotation
• Expand our impact by interviewing and hiring great Software Engineers

We are looking for someone who has

• At least 4 years of production experience in Software engineering
• Practical experience with the go programming language (1+ year)
• Extensive experience with any other low-level backend programming language (C, C++, Rust, etc.)
• Strong background in Linux system programming, Kubernetes, virtual machines (e.g., QEMU), containers, and distributed systems
• Passion for building systems software. Performance engineering and distributed systems are topics that excite you!
• Experience with open-source projects and developing publicly is a plus
• Passion for joining a fast-paced, early-stage startup
• Track record of identifying problems, implementing solutions and delivering complex projects in distributed systems or databases
• Strong sense of ownership, accountability and pride
• Excellent English verbal and writing skills (native or near-native speaker)

Neon is building open-source cloud-native PostgreSQL. Our architecture separates storage from compute, allowing for stateless and serverless Postgres. We’re a well funded startup with deep knowledge of Postgres internals and decades of experience building databases. We are a systems company; we work on low-level code with strict performance and correctness requirements.
